Please call me Darren, my father goes by Mr. Ellis.
I read a previous post by someone (Can't remember who, but if you do a search you might be able to find it), where they indicated that they had gone into their local HF and bought this Micro Mill for $150. He said he thought he was buying it for $300, but when he got to the counter it rang up at $150 so he assumed it was on sale. I went to my local HF and asked about this mill (they didn't have it in stock), and was told the price was $300. I then asked for the manager and explained to him that I knew of someone who got it for $150 and could he match the price. He said that if I could tell him the store where the sale was going on, he'd call to confirm and then match the price. So I went home and emailed the guy asking about the store. Before he emailed me back, I figured I'd try calling HF online and see if they'd do it, as my local store would have to order it anyway. I was immediately told by the person who helped me that she couldn't do it but I could try talking to customer service. I then called customer service and was told no, that local HF stores can hold store only sales and that they wouldn't match prices when this happens. I asked the woman who was helping me if I could speak with her manager, one thing I learned in the military is that there is always a chain of command and if you're not satisfied with the answer from one person you should move up the ladder a step at a time. The manager basically told me the same thing. I explained to her that I really wanted to buy this Mill but didn't like the fact that different HF stores were charging different prices for the same thing (this is a common HF occurrence). I then asked her if she would please match the price, and with a bit of reluctance in her voice she said she'd be willing to do it. At all times I was very polite and nice to everyone who I spoke with. So, basically, I guess I got it by being persistent, polite and saying please!
I've had it for a month and a half or so thus far, and have just recently gotten around to ordering some tooling for it so I haven't fully put it through its rounds yet. It does appear to be a fairly solid little machine for what it is and should do what I need it for until I can afford to buy a larger unit.
Sorry to hear that, as $150 was a great deal. HF stores do seem to be extremely inconsistent in how they deal with things... I guess it's the luck of the draw in who you end up talking to at either the store or the online ordering place...
