that whistle thing is pretty sweet! Just made one from a steel reserve can - works great! Really freaking loud, and easy to do!

won't replace a real whistle in my kit- but good to know!

I actually made two of those today. The first one turned out better than the second one, but they both work out great. I was very surprised at how loud it is for just using a bunch of scrap aluminum (coke can I found at a park). The candle lantern is also a neat start, then just rip off one of the flaps and you have instant material for the whistle. Genius I tell you, Genius!!!

The part where he makes a whistle is the second half. I was able to make a very good one on my second try. It works extremely well, though not extremely durable if have to keep bending it into shape. I've been carrying around one made from a MGD can for a few days. Very easy to do one handed. I thought it was a neat backup option.
