mini recon 1, zancudo or tenacious

So I'm going to be getting a tax refund and don't want any holes in my pockets ;) I really want the mini recon 1 (love the looks of it and I've only heard good things) but it's $85 here in Canada  It seems really steep to me. Is it worth $30 more than the tenacious or the zancudo? If not, I'm torn between those two. One is bigger and more robust, the other is more pocket and sheeple friendly. Help!

85 is way too much for a mini recon, knifecenter has them on sale right now for a fraction of that price, order one online.

I am a big Cold Steel fan and have been for a long time, have to pick which one you feel is best for you though.

Is there any place you can check out the ergonomics in hand?

What type of tasks do you think you will do most often?

I just looked and only the clip point is on special  Mostly every day use like opening and cutting boxes, string, packages etc. The occasional camping trip and some yard work. I had to cut through some metal wire with my skyline and it left some small chips in the blade :( And unfortunately there's no place I can go to hold them in hand so it's all off your guys' words.

Triad lock (spine) vs frame lock vs liner lock. They're just different. Is the mini recon worth $80? No. Look for a deal. It's real grippy and the lock is solid and the blade is stout. The blade coating will wear off. Carrying every day is rough on pockets because of the grip.

Zancudo I liked, but the colored side of the handle felt cheap to me. It's the thinnest of the three. It's a solid knife and I like em. I don't love em.

The tenacious is a great value. They are well made and a good balance of handle grip.

If you can get a better deal (closer to $50 than $80) on the recon I'd go for it. Otherwise, tenacious.

Hmm thanks. I've been looking around and I can't seem to find anything that would be cheaper after shipping and duty. Seems strange that a 3 inch Aus8A blade is so much money. Especially since there aren't even any steel liners.

If you can wait about a month of so, ESEE/BRK is coming out with an updated, up-sized version of the Zancudo called the Avispa.

Looks like the size is meant to give the RAT1 more of a run for it's money.

Personally, I'd go with a Tenacious, but that's just me.
I thought the Zancudo was so-so, mostly the small size turned me off. So maybe a larger one is just what the doctor ordered...?

Ontario Rat 1 or Rat 2. These two perform well above expectations, and despite using them every day, they've only needed touching up and have never went dull.

Not sure why people are downing the clip point? No one who uses their knife as a knife is going to hurt a clip point. If ya want a screwdriver or pry bar, buy one. :]

Where's the information for the new zancudo? Google was not very helpful haha. It's more of an aesthetic issue for me. Just never got into clip points expect on traditionals. Anyone know a cheap place to get the mini recon 1?

There's no possible way you can get the Mini Recon 1 cheaper???? It was $35 shipped in America

I owned a Tenacious and I wasn't a huge fan so I sold it. I also currently own a Zancudo. The ESEE Zancudo is much more practical as an EDC blade compared to the Recon, but the Mini Recon 1 is just purely awesome. But is it worth $85? Absolutely not.

Conclusion: Get the Zancudo.

Where was it $35? In Canada people are selling it for over $100 on amazon. Sometimes it sucks to live in the great white north (except of course when it comes to hockey).

I just bought a brand new clip point Mini Recon 1 on the Bay for 30 odd bucks excluding shipping. So maybe you should have a look there. The clip points are selling for less than the spear points though. I got a clip point because I already have a Lawman which is a spear point.

That big river company also has it for $35 but shipping for me is a killer.

I've been looking and the spear point seems to be going for <$60, and few ship to Canada. The ones that do add up to the same as the ones from here after tax and shipping. Sigh I guess it is what it is. No mini recon for me :(

So the cheapest I've found for the mini recon is $85 all in including taxes, shipping and duty. The tenacious would be $68. Is the recon $17 better? Or will the tenacious surprise me?

I wonder why the clip is so cheap but not the other two? seems like retailers are trying to get rid of them. It's like only half the price at more than one place.

That's really steep for both those knives, but me personally, I prefer AUS8 over 8Cr13MoV.
The Tenacious is a great budget Spyderco, but since Canada seems intent on taxing the hell out of it's citizens, I can't really recommend it at $70. Then again, everything is going to be more expensive up there.

Don' you have any local outdoor stores you could try to convince to order one? Or that might have one on-hand?

I do not believe the recon is $17 better for daily use, unless you prefer the extra grippy texture or lock style.
