Mini Review: Rodan and Shango

It fits! I have a orange one wrapped right now.
Yes, the Rodan handle could look a little better, but trust me, this is how it was able to be a bargain.

ok, I'll butt out of this thread before my head swells.

You've done so well, Joe, that it's okay to get a swelled head... for about two minutes, then on to the next project. We're waiting to see what you come up with next.

Quick Shango update: I just discovered that it wasn't the striking surface being dull that was the problem, but rather the coating covering the striking zone and preventing proper contact. After filing off the coating from the butt of the knife (as well as a little bit on the edge of the flat side) it's now throwing sparks like one of those little windup nuns! Just gave myself a nice burn on my left index finger and put holes in my lady's newspaper. I'm in trouble now!!! :D

be careful. I ruined some nylon pants with one of those. I re-shot the video on how to use it. Once I upload it, and if no one minds, I'll post it up here. It really works well for a backup lighting source I think. I know I will be using it in the next ferro rod contest at PWYP!

I was looking into getting a bushlore but now I have to look at the rodan a little better, thanks for the review!!!

Many thanks to my lovely lady for her infinite patience and understanding, and also for taking these pictures for me. :D

Both those are indeed growing on me. Would anyone be so kind as to give me two handle measurements from the Rodan? Was hoping for the handle thickness and circumference, if possible.

And anyone know who's selling them?

Handle is approximately 1.25"x1"x5.25" with a circumference of about 4" :)

As for finding someone who's selling them, Google Shopping is your friend. ;)

Thanks for the info on that amigo, that helps.

Ran through the first half dozen of google shopping earlier and everyone was out of stock. C'est la vie!

Are the stickers easy to remove I always hate it when it takes an hour to get one off completely.

Decently easy to remove them. If you have any trouble getting the sticker goo off, just splash some lighter fluid on it and it'll dissolve the glue.:)

Joe, I can't help but remark how practiced and natural that action on the magnesium scraping looks for you in the video....I couldn't tell if you were using your left or your right hand, but you sure seem to know what you are doing :D :D :D

Seriously, put the sheath on before you use the ferro divot. Great tip. I'm kind of dull myself and probably wouldn't have figured that one out. Makes a whole lot of sense to me. That ferro scraper option is an amazing idea. I really want a shango right now. Be sure, even before I get a shango of my own, that I will be practicing that scraping action. I have developed an exercise that helps build up the right muscles. Just need to step up the program. Endurance is the key!!!

I need a Rodan or two! That handle looks like it is shaped the same as the excellent handle on the Condor Inca knife (speaking of, Joe can you pull some strings to get the Inca Knife made in carbon steel?).

It seems the Rodan is out of stock every where. Where can I get one (or two)?

Doing a quick check it looks like Combat Tactical might have it in stock...at least it didn't say they were out of it!

And yes, it's the same handle as the inca knife. :)
