Mini-Rukus or Tyrade?

Trying to decide on my next EDC purchase. I thought I was done with liner locks until I saw an associate's Tyrade in black G10. So now I'm trying to decide between the Mini-Rukus and the Tyrade. I've had a Griptillian in the past so I know how good the Axis lock is. The MR has S30V while the Tyrade has D2 at the edge. I've handled both and they are equally comfortable to me. The Tyrade's roughly half the cost of the Mini Rukus. Is there a definitive answer here.... I don't know. What'a you think?

If your buying them used I’d op for the Tyrade, however on the exchange the 615 goes for much less then new. Around the $100 mark give or take a bit for condition.

Oh and this time next year its possible that the tyrade may be hard to find, considering it was a limited edition in a kind of hard to find steel.

ditto on the tyrade or junkyard dog II the jyd is even a bit cheaper and about the same knife, both are excellent hard use knives...

well if you like them equally and one costs half as much.

personally I like the steel and the aesthetics of the mini rukus WAY better.

Tyrade all the way. As said this is actually a limited edition knife that once gone will be gone, except for popping up on ebay at twice or more original price! The CPMD2 edge steel is really good, and those ~.080" thick hardened steel liners, along with Kershaws excellently engineered linerlock will keep it locked up really tight. I like the Rukus and have a 610 Rukus with the winewood grips that make for a really nice looking folder, couple that with the Axis Lock and you have a great piece of cutlery, no doubt! But with the coming scaricty of the Tyrade I have to say, GO FOR IT!

I love the Tyrade. Great steel, solid build, and good ergonomics. I just need to get one myself now.

I am really pleased with the Mini-Rukus. It's a great knife, but the Tyrade also seems like a great knife. Due to it being limited production I think you should grab the Tyrade for the time being and pick up the Mini-Rukus at a later date.

If I had to pick just one though it would be the Mini-Rukus.

Go for the Mini Rukus. Owned the full size Rukus and build quality was unbelievably high. The Axis lock and G10/Micarta scales make this a classic.

I have the new Tyrade. It's very solid, perhaps without peers at the price. I think it offers great value. My one issue is entirely personal: I do think that "assisted opening" is a bit... vulgar...

By the way, those scales in the picture look marvelous. Do you have more pictures?

Yup, I did this one up in desert ironwood. Here's another shot.

It sounds like you can't go wrong with either choice. I haven't held a Ruckus yet, however.

I like both knives a lot but I'm giving another vote for the Tyrade.

Those scales look great Firebert. I'm in the process of refinishing my first G-10 Tyrades blade and liners. I haven't completely decided on a scale or backspacer change but your pic has me thinking about it again.
