Mini SERE 2000 this year

Very nice! 3.5 oz and a 3" blade sound very good indeed. The only reason I sold my S2K was because of the weight.

It is great to see some new things coming out from Al Mar Knives, hope there is more to come.

The price of a mini is just $20 cheaper?

Thats like just 8% lesser..

seems about right to me. I don't think that the price of the materials is a big factor in the pricing of knives.

the mini doesn't look that much smaller than the full size SERE 2000, so I guess that explains not much difference in price

Hmm... if calculated based on weight the mini is 42% less material.
if workmanship is kept constant, that means we are paying 8% less for the 42% less material?

I hope its a typo.. cos im hoping maybe it could be cheaper... LOL

After scrolling to the bottom og the page, I saw the knife that I want.

Can someone reccommend a site where I can buy a Sere SLB (Small Little BackUp)?

That's the little baby boy that I'm getting!

The materials probably cost about $8. The real cost is in the labor and tooling. The real question should be "why do bigger knives cost so much more than smaller knives when the incremental labor and materials costs are only a few bucks more?"

The SLB is a cool knife. I keep one clipped to the outside pocket of my office satchel. The black clip and single liner make it nearly invisible against my black satchel.

Like I said, I don't know that material cost is all that big a factor in the pricing on knives, but rather the quality of the worksmanship in the working of those materials.

You can go out and buy a Mtech with full steel liners, g-10 scales and a 440C blade for $15. Don't expect it to be on par with a Bencmade made with the same basic materials though.

It's just released. I bought one personally from Gary Fadden at the IWA show in Germany last weekend. Great knife, beautifully made (by Moki). Liner-lock is very well done. (according to some very knowledgable people..) Locks up great. No play whatsoever. Blade is perfectly centered. Fit & finish is perfect. Nothing wrong there... Size is good for a 3" folder also.
Odd thing is that it didn't kick my Strider PT out of my pocket as EDC as I thought it would do...

I just wonder why it costs more than a Shrike, same materials, same Al Mar worknanship, same lock, quite a bit smaller.

THAT'S IT?

ONE new knife?:(

I've been singing Al Mar praises on this forum for over a year and that's all I have to look forward to?

Oh, well. I'm not done getting all the existing models I want, so less pressure.

.

Don't know...things I see is that the mini Sere has a lanyard hole (extra drill run) and I don't know if the Shrike has multiple levels milled in the G-10? (to make room for the liner lock). Also the clip position is different and that might be more difficult to make...
