If things get rough you can always use a flat smooth river rock to touchup the blade edge. All these little gadget are just more stuff to tote around and slow you down. Life is too short for that!
DGG,
Firstly, my reason for asking about the mini sharpmaker I thought was clear. If you don't want to spend the money that's fine. Regardless, others may want to.
Secondly, regardless of how good a knife steel is, you may find the need to sharpen it on the road. Am I supposed to buy a new knife before I go out somewhere? Every time? You may want to rethink that.
Thirdly, why would you assume I would be near a river to find these rocks, let alone start carrying rocks and stones? You're stating that the mini is too much to carry around, but then you suggest sandpaper and rocks. All these gadgets? I was asking about one and one only thing so I don't know what other "gadgets" you're referring to.
Lastly, life IS too short, to resond to posts for people who obviously don't understand the topic at hand. Start an anti-gadget/weight thread if you're so worried about it.
