a quick comparison of a Tarwar & a mini Tarwar:

Inspired we went to live blade suppresed hit drills (at bags, not each other). 6 guys swinging HI blades, but did I get any pixs????:foot::o

The Mini Tarwar once again demonstrates Master Bura's inate understanding of what a martial blade's balance and handling characteristics should be; she effing sings. Lively and smooth. As nice a blade as I've seen from HI. The kamis make superlative short swords IMHO.
So no actions shots, but one more quick composition:

This was all very offhand and ad hoc before this evening's class...

Very Nice, Abaniko !
Would be great, if you shot a small action vid. :D

I felt a strong pull on that mini. Glad I didn't get it, though, funds are short these days, and I would have missed the seax in the other thread.

Glad you like it. It's hard to find a usable sword these days, much less one that is made by someone who knows how they should balance. At least for less than the price of a car.

I like to get out and swing my tarwar around every now and then.

Great news and pix, thank you Abaniko

Ever since I first laid eyes on the mini Tarwar I had one thing go through my head, now I'll say it:

Carry both,be a real "Himalayan Samurai" :D

Thanks for the impressions so far: now how does it compare to your 25ounce Uddha?

Here is a quick shot of the Bura Mini Tarwar (14.75 in. blade @24oz) & a Bura Uddha sword (17 in. blade @25 oz):

Mini is a beast in its own right, only in HI circles would it be considered "small"...;)
@Krull: LOL... What the hell is a Himalayan Samurai??

Thanks - that is a beefy blade.
Is the tang a through tang, i.e. peened at the pommel?

The samurais were the only Japanese allowed to carry a daisho- both long sword (called daito, e.g., a katana, or in our case a tarwar) and a short sword (called shoto, e.g., wakizashi, or in our case a mini tarwar). Another good EDC combo would be the Everest Katana coupled with a Wajaski sword.

So Daisho makes a samurai? I don't think the Hagakure Kikigaki agrees with this idea...nor does Go Rin No Sho.
Maybe a Himalayan samurai would subscribe to a Yeti Niten Ryu or something?:D
Quite a few bugei might take issue with idea that picking up a pair of blades is a defining criterea...

This said, any eskrimador I know of wouldn't mind pairing the mini with whatever else might be at hand.

Himalayan Kali?;)

Daisho doesn't make one a samurai any more than a revolver makes one a cowboy, and many a samurai would carry a tanto instead of wakizashi (unless they planned on entering a someone else's house), but my statement was that if one weren't a samurai and tried carrying two swords, he/she would have gotten in deep water with whoever had temporary control over that particular area of Japan so he/she better be skilled in using those swords or get skilled really fast. The unbreakable hierarchy of old Japan was not exactly what is considered "politically correct" in today's sissy times of peace (for the time being at least until it all "hits the fan").

As for using both swords at the same time, it sure is doable with the light samurai blades folded a "brazillian" times over, but you beter be a real macho man to yield the overbuilt HI blades with one hand each ambidextrously with the speed necessary for any extended period of time. Just think how light a mini-shinai for Kendo is and still most Kendoka never become proficient in two sword fighting because it is simply exhausting both for the body and the especially for the brain.

Alex

P.S. Kali with mini tarwars would be fun, but perhaps even better: Muay Boran.

I have that combo..... but EDC? You must live in one heckuva neighborhood!

Sure, EDC it, why not? You only need a long raincoat like in the Highlander movies.
"THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!"

Alex

P.S. I am surrounded by rich spoilt white and asian kids in my neighborhood. I think they "know kung fu" or at least they speak like Keanu Reeves.

25 oz is a nice weight.

Uh, call it a 'shamurai'?

If carrying a samurai sword makes you a samurai, then does having a gun makes you a gunfighter?
