yeah and then lose grip and lose the whole knife in the jar. then you have to fish it out with another knife (preferably a LARGE sebenza) and then spend a couple of hours taking it apart to cleaning it. All the while you could have just used your large and and be enjoying the peanut buttery goodness of you sandwich.:foot:

I personaly think the small Seb. is one of the finest EDC knives of all time.

I still like the large Sebs and that is what I would use if I was out in the bush or working
but for about the house or about the town sort of stuff it's hard to better the small Seb.

The Mnanadi is another great small knife that finds it's place in EDC life, as would a small Umnum. i'm sure.

I'm not sure if you're joking or being serious. Either way I ain't mad at you and either way your going to have to clean the Peanut Butter off the knife. Call me crazy but I would just use a butter knife for that particular task. And yes it can reach:D I don't know about others but I can easily do that without dropping it if I wanted to.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not against large sebbies. This thread is about requesting info on mini unum or possibly getting them to see there is demand for it. I'm just saying is all.

I just use my fingers to get the peanut butter out of the jar, that way I don't cut my tong licking the utensil clean.

I was kidding.....BUT it could be a possibility:eek:

Received this reply from CRK on 6/16/09......

Steve,

Thank you for your email. At this time we are not planning on a small Umnumzaan. That being said, who knows what the far future will bring. We may decide to go with it, but it is not in the works at this time. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Kind regards,

Heather

I don't think it's a question of "if" the small Umnumzaan will be available, but rather "when" it will be available.

The answer right now though is unfortunately "not yet."

I handled the Umnum and I loved it. I believe it is still under the legal limit here but I don't like to carry a knife that big as I don't need that much blade and the comfort of carry is lower for larger knives. If I spent a significant amount of time outdoors more than I do now I would jump on it for sure. For now the Small Sebenza fits my needs for outdoors time as well as urban time and I would like a Small Umnum in the mix. If it were just slightly bigger than the Small Sebenza... well that'd be cool.

It amazes me how some people can think a small knife (Small Seb in this case) just can't be considered a "hard use" or EDC type folder. Really?! 3" blade is plenty for most things. I had small Sebs exclusively for quite a while before getting a lg. Seb. Fortunately, I'm not held back by local law on blade length, but if I was, I'd have no problem using the small Seb.

Having said all that, I definitely prefer the Umnum to the lg. Seb. Don't get me wrong, I really like the lg. Seb, but just find the Umnum a better knife, IMHO. If CRK finally comes out with a smaller version (Along the size of the small Seb), I'd probably be all over it, unless they don't make it exactly like the current Umnum for some reason.

It's unfortunate that there are blade length restrictions in some places, & even sillier that some places/countries won't allow a FB &/or locking folder. That's a shame, but no reason to make fun of people that have/want to abide by their laws.

I'm still waiting for bigmark408 to define "hard use"...After all, he did seem quite certain about what could and couldn't be used for such work. If the sm. Seb doesn't fit his hands, that's fine, but to make a blanket statement without anything backing it up is just "talking to hear yourself talk", so to speak.

Let me just say that i think the small seb can handle any task for a knife of its size....so i don't see the need for CRK to start making a mini zaan.

As far as tasks go...these days i don't really have any tasks that i consider hard use....I am a carpenter so the tasks of my edc would be things like trimming drywall or wood on a door or window opening, opening materials packaging, cutting banding,,,etc...what ever comes my way during a givin day...i show no mercy and could care less about scratching a blade or damaging an edge.

I prefer the size of the large seb or zaan because i like the leverage this size affords my hand....the small is a 3 finger knife for me.

I have broken several benchmades and spyderco's performing the tasks i mentioned above.

I have given benchmades and spyderco's to the guys that work for me and they have broken them also so i started giving them ZT's and none of them have broken yet.

I hope this satisfies you flip.....i'm no punk and have been doing knives for a long time.
