When you get DWK2, Sasha, C Bryant, and Bearthedog on the trail you can call it a mini W&SS gathering. I had the privilige of meeting up with C Bryant, Sasha, and DWK2 (Dave) for a nice day hike, dinner and some hang time in LA. I knew Christian (C Bryant) but not Sasha or Dave (DWK2) before today's gathering. We had a nice dinner in which Dave made us some venison, Wild Boar, stuffed sausages, potatoes, and broccoli. Christian had some of the coolest blades from ML, Cook, Crumps Forge, Koyote, JK, and Steven Fowler. I had a few knives but Dave had us all beat. He put on a mini-blade show for us and displayed some of the finest cutlery I have ever seen. We had a good time talking about knives, hunting, shooting, backpacking, and fire making. All I can say is thanks guys, lets do it again soon!

Crumps Forge Knife was my favorite of the bunch, thanks Cristian.

Sasha liked this one and a few times I thought he was going to make a run for it with this in hand!

Christian was mouthing off and got a good smack in the back of the head from Dave. Not really but that's what it looks like in the picture.

Looks like you guys had a great time, beautiful day too. :)

Great stuff Bear....I never heard of spotted dick before ----I don't really intend to find out either :D

Wow, looks like you guys had a great time! Where is this place you went hiking? Is that the coast I see? I'm pretty familiar with Southern CA since I'm from there. I probably know it better than where I'm at now.

kgd,

About ten years ago the British food industry decided to change the name to a more PC "Spotted Richard" but sales dropped and they had to change it back. Linguists (some no doubt very cunning) speculate that a couple hundred years ago a food like this was sometimes referred to as a "puddick" rather than "pudding" and that the term got shortened to "dick". The "spotted" description refers to the presence of raisins or other small pieces of dried fruit in the pudding. [It's actually more like a sweet bread or sponge cake than what most Americans consider "pudding".]

In any event, it was nice to have some guests who appreciate wild venison and boar. It is a lot of work to hunt them and drag them out so it's nice to be able to share the meat with folks to like something other than just grocery store meat.

Thanks for posting the photos Bear!

Ray,

That's the Los Liones trail toward Parker Mesa. It starts near a Mormon temple not far from where Sunset and PCH intersect. Because of time constraints we did about 5 miles and a bit over a thousand vertical feet rather than the whole 7 miles to Parker Mesa and back. [Mainly because of the older, fatter, slower guy in the group.... But I did make it back to cook---so that was a success.]

myright,

I'll let Sasha describe the clump in more detail. It was some vegetation that he identified as good tinder so the guys collected it to start the BBQ. I already had a couple pieces of fatwood from the dead tree that Christian and others demolished for tinder at Bush Bash I a few months ago.

Hey Bear, looks like you guys had a good time. Thanks for sharing.

When you post pictures of other forum members, it's always good to identify who's who for those of us who have not had the privilege.

It's not very often you see Eks in this sub-forum. I have the little boot knife, although mine has black micarta scales.

great pics guys....:) i wish we could have been there...:o my boys would have had a blast... they enjoyed hanging out with Dave, Christian and Sasha especially...:D

Dave has one of the best knife collections i have seen.... there are quite a few nice ones in there... i reallylike those knapped blades...

Reuben-- who made that cool Japanese chefs knife that Sasha loved so much?? i want one too...

That paracord wrapped dagger just looks so clean. While, I have absolutely no want for a dagger - I just love the looks of that one.

Thanks for the clarification DWK2 about spotted dick, good to know it isn't 'herpes in a can' :D
