Mini-W&SS Gathering (hike)

Mike,

The one that Sasha liked most was a light weight nagiri bocho by Murray Carter, laminated and forged with a Hitachi white steel core and stainless outer layers. The knife that Sasha is shown with is a heavier deba bocho laminated/forged by Takeda.

kgd,

Glad to help!

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Horlicks. I always chuckle at that name too.

I'm with Sasha, I would have been tempted to run off with one of these too.:D

The yanagi ba on the right required a considerable wait (and check) with Murray but it is one of my favorites. In addition to traditional tasks, it is excellent for slicing turkey or roast beef. And with about a foot of razor-sharp blade in your hand, nobody tries to snatch pieces of the turkey or roast before you are done cutting!;)

Murray Carter makes great knives. Probably one of the top on my list of best users. He's got amazing skills!

Murray's work is expensive but his edges are insanely sharp!

Hey that flash in your camera made my eyes pop everytime lol .... Sorry im late to the party.. I had to leave early so i could wake up at 5:45am and make it to santa cruz island hike.. Just came back and had enough time to take a shower. I shall post the pics as soon as i down load them..... Guys you got no idea how good of a cook Dave it... I loved the venison he made. Cooked just right nice an juicy.. with great flavor. It was great to meet you Reuben and of course to meet Dave and Chris again.. You meet some of the nicest and coolest people on WSS. We need to plan a short backpacking trip as well.
I forgot the name of the plant you saw me holding. It holds an ember for a very long time. It also great to transfer your coal from a bow drill and then use that to light a stubborn tinder. Or if you want to carry some coal with you on a long hike.
The pic of the striker that Chris made was taken on top of palm leaves that were dry and crushed from people walking on it. They took one spark to light up and produce a good fire.

Sasha buddy I trust you had a good hike. You are right we need to get a couple more guys together and do an overnighter. Another thing...Dave can cook it up!

Lets see some of your pics from the Santa Cruz hike.

Sasha, Dave, Christian-This is the place I was talking about for a backpacking trip. Look up Arroyo Seco-Switzer Falls. The camp site is called Oakwylde Camp.

Thanks for the compliments; I'm glad you liked the chow. As a general rule of thumb, when selecting the person you want to do the cooking, always go with the old/fat bastid!:o

Hey dave even when you chose an old guy to do the cooking make sure you chose well lol... Did you forget about your old friend you were telling us about lol...

Sasha

Sasha,

The old guy who is known for the "snotted eggs" is so scrawny that he looks like he was liberated from Andersonville Prison. So he doesn't meet the "fat bastid" qualification!
