I need ideas for an edc that is very minimal, not a lot of gear but the basics. Knife, flashlight, ect... just the necessities. Thanks guys :-)

SAK Alox Classic or Rambler and Fenix LD01 on your keychain. Should cover many urban use cases.

Smatchet and a shotgun.

Opinel and an Opinel. :p

But seriously, find a knife you like, whether it's a Skyline, a Grip, an SAK, or an Opinel. Then find a flashlight in a size you like. I prefer a 1 or 2 AAA light to keep in my pocket, but keychain lights are popular too. Then trim down your wallet and keychain as much as is practical for you, and you've got yourself a minimalist EDC.

If you are talking about EDC around town then a slim wallet, smart phone, and a good watch are required. As far as knives go, a Delica (light and strong) and a small multitool, such as the Victorinox Alox Cadet, or the Leatherman Style are very handy and will meet all of your cutting, bottle opening, can opening, screwdriving, finger fixing, needs you are likely to encounter. If these won't do it, you need something you can't easily EDC. Also, a small LED flashlight, key ring size and light weight and pepper spray are essential.

I'd go with the following:

Knife - Emerson Mini Commander or Strider PT
Flashlight - Inova Microlight
Pen - Hinderer Investigator
Multitool - Vctorinox Spartan
Wallet
Phone
Keys

Here is what my current EDC set up looks like. I'm pretty happy with this format.

- Maglite Solitaire LED, Gerber Shard and a SAK classic held together with a S biner.
- Mid Sized folder (Griptilian, Rat1,Utilitac 2, Vantage, Leek)
- G Shock watch
- iPhone
- Wallet
- Pilot G2
- Keys, on an S biner

Duck Childress necker and a SAK in a leather pocket sheath. Switch out the pocket knife for either a multi tool or flashlight and you customize to your needs.

And I need ideas for where you are talking about. Woods? Urban? Working on a farm? Battling terrorist zombies?

Depending on a knife for defense is like depending on a L----l to have your best interest at heart. You need pepper spray for both.

Ruger LCP .380 with 6+1 Golden Sabers, SOG Flash 1, Victorinox Manager, Leatherman PS4 and awesome Fenix E05 (2014 edition). All of your major food groups for righteous daily living are covered, but it only weighs about 1 pound total.

At a minimum, and I'm excluding a pistol as I don't know if you carry one, a flashlight and a multitool.

I prefer my Zebralight SC52 and a Leatherman Skeketool CX.

I always have a folder on me too.

I generally carry a folding knife, my smartphone and I have a very cheap, small multi-tool (small blade, bottle opener, flat and philips screwdriver and a light) on my keychain.
