Salutations knife makers and grinders.
This is my first post so if it is in the wrong sections please feel free to relocate but upon searching this seemed like the most appropriate place.
In short my goal is to grind serrations into or rather restore serrations into blades. I am aware there are machines to do this more officially, but the need for serrations in my applications is very small and infrequent and I am looking to put together a simple economical setup with a motor and thin (1/4" dia)convex wheel(rated at 1000 rpm).
I will be restoring existing serrations so I will not need to be taking off a lot of metal at once, it will be light work with not too much pressure. However, I see various motors available online with horsepower such as 1/10th and 1/30th horse. Google is not exactly reliable with such specifics and my resources in my area with both people and stores are quite limited, so i see the expertise and knowledgeability of the good people of BF.
So my question is what is the minimum horsepower for grinding metal/stainless/carbon steel?
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Also if anyone knows where to acquire more 10"dia x1/4"width x1/2" hole grinding wheels that would be very, very helpful. There is no name or info on the one wheel i do have and it was given to me by a person I am no longer in contact with(plus google fails me again).
Thank you
