Minnesotans, what do you EDC?

MasterofFajitas link to St. Paul ordinance states
Knife shall mean dirk, dagger, stiletto, switchblade knife, spring blade knife, push button knife, a folding knife with a blade in excess of four (4) inches, a machete, a bayonet, or any fixed-blade knife, carried in a concealed manner or within reach of any person in a motor vehicle

so that must mean any fixed blade knife is a no-no no matter length? I'd guess I'll get that sebbie after all.

Seriously, folks....I can`t believe how worked up some of you get over this issue....when`s the last time you were ordered to "assume the position", and summarily searched by the police? When out in public, I don`t look or act like the authorities would have any reason to fu@k with me, so I pretty much carry what I want and don`t worry about it....

Well most of us don't look like middle aged white guys from the 'burbs :) just kidding

Well, if being a minority has you paranoid about being racially profiled, you can always start walking with a cane, and brush up on your Hapkido techniques (I`m just a middle-aged white guy from the `burbs, and that`s what I do :-)

Well, looks like they changed the laws pretty significantly last year. Nice, but I'm not too worried, since if I'm reading this right, the ordinances on knives seem to be related to weapons, or throwing knives, and I don't carry a knife for weapon or toy purposes.

I have a couple of friends on the Duluth police force, and I have been told that as long as you're not acting like an idiot and fooling around, or threatening someone, you usually won't get much flack, if any at all. Of course, if you're carrying a pocket machete (over 4 inches in blade length), you might run into some trouble.

Knowing my friggin luck, the one time I carry illegal is the one time I get stopped by the police. I'll follow the laws so Murphys law doesnt bite me in the ass.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I had to ask.

If you have knives that are over the legal limit, and autos, and other illegal to carry knives, is it okay to own them and keep them at your house?

My dad gave me his issued colonial parachute auto knife and though I wouln't carry it, I like the piece of mind to know it's at least legal to keep in my house.

I live in Minnesota, and my understanding is that the only regulations regarding blade length are in Minneapolis (perhaps St. Paul too).

Here is Bernard Levine's Website on State Knife Laws

I usually EDC a folder with 2.5-3.75" blade, but I probably have a few with >4" in the rotation.

Hate to revive this but I've been looking around and I see no statute on knife length in MN
The reason I care is I EDC a cold steel spartan

I got a spyderco native 5 that I believe is right at 3 inches. It looks docile with its leaf shape blade but it is a rugged little knife. A great EDC choice.

Just to confirm what has been said since this thread is a couple years old, there is still NO BLADE LENGTH LIMIT in MN aside from Minneapolis which has a 4" limit. Concealed fixed blades are technically illegal but nobody will think twice about a small one like an izula, and I believe you can carry pretty much anything you want (within reason) in a sheath on your belt. No autos or balis but assisted opening is okay. There are a ton of hunters/fishermen/outdoorsmen around here so as you can imagine, a pocket knife is a pretty common sight depending upon where you are. The general rule of thumb in MN is dont be an idiot. Folk here (police officers included) tend to be pretty down to earth people with a good deal of common sense. If you're being an idiot with your knife then you may have some problems (and deservedly so...), if you're responsible and use your knife as the tool it was intended to be nobody will so much as look twice at even a fairly large folder.

Interesting. I read state knife laws posted at this site. I think Bernard Levine posted them. They have us at 4" max. The local cops told me my Endura is fine to EDC.
