The elephant is in the room with this one. Perfect fossil scales and a beautiful heirloom quality classic. Hand-made in Germany by Bulldog during their heyday. A strong beauty and the scales are as smooth and glossy as ceramic. 220$ includes insured shipping. Thanks for your time.20230108_151704.jpg

Thanks. Sadly, I just got hit with an unexpected bill so this will have to wait. Perhaps in a few months after my finances have recovered I can check back to see if it is still available.

As a side note, I think a lot of ivory that is listed as mastodon is actually mammoth. There is a lot more mammoth of this quality out there, most coming from Siberia and some from Alaska/Yukon. Mastodon is a strictly North American affair. It's easy to tell the difference if you have the molars, there is a big difference between mastodon and mammoth molars. There is also a difference in the schreger lines, but that requires close examination. Since Bulldog knives were made in Germany, it is more likely that they sourced the material from Siberia, which would make it mammoth.

On the other hand, this could be modern elephant. Here is one with the same box that was sold as modern elephant:
