i just got a mirror finish Browning Crowell / Barker Competition Knife and it has some
small rust on the blade . any thought on how to get it off with out going crazy and
mirror finish all over ?

i also have a leather sheath with what looks like duck tape residue on it any help in cleaning methods ?

Light rust without significant pitting is usually easy to remove on mirrored blades. Just use a metal polish, like Flitz or Simichrome, or Mother's Mag Aluminum & Wheel Polish (paste); all of these work well on steel with a little 'elbow grease'. :)

If there's any pitting, after the red rust comes off, sanding is the only way to fix that. Usually not worth the trouble though, unless you're willing to go through a whole sequence of sanding grits and polishing, to restore a mirror finish.

The residue left by duct tape can usually be removed with some 'Goo Gone'; it works well on that type of adhesive, and many more things as well. WD-40, mineral spirits, or lighter fluid might work as well.
