Mirror Finish for functional use

For years I carried a Carbon Stag Bagwell Bowie with a mirror polish for a camp knife

The mirror polish resisted rust very well and some skill with a buffer kept it looking decent

Sweet bowie. What did you use to buff her? I need to clean one up and I was thinking about using mother's.

The ones I build for my people get used hard hunting,fishing..... The only exception was a safe Queen for my best friend Bill Mullins who is passed. It had a mirror ATS34 blade. Asuch l wanted him to get some blood on it he would not use it because he knew what it took to get the finish on it. If u use one expect a lot of work unless you use it fruit. Imho

You could mirror polish just the spine.
This mantra is otherwise pretty boring gray and blade gets patina and looks grey also, but with mirror spine it looks awesome. When you use it it's trippy also.

Doesn't get scratches there much

I have done mirror finishes on a few blades, it's not that much work and I think it performs better than other surfaces, especially a kitchen knife.

No it didnt, it was more like 50...

As for maintenance, just a few minutes each on high grit sandpaper I found online.

If the blade has a mirror finish, it makes only sense (to me...) to also apply a mirror finish edge. Anyways, I always sharpen my edges to "high polished" because I "feel" they cut better. The great, great advantage of a mirror polished blade is how easy it is to keep clean. Gives a new meaning to "just wipe it on your jeans"... Makes less a problem of what a steel the knife is made of. I have treated lightly blades in D2 (which can be quite sensitive), wadded in fat and only cleaning them the day after, and they turned out to be just fine because they were mirror polished.
