Mirror finish

If you have the handle and hardware off of it, it's easy to hot blue/black it.

It's harder and more durable than cold blue. Tests have shown it to be harder than the underlying steel and much more resistant to rust than factory hot blue.

I cold blued one of my mora knives with Brownell's Oxpho-Blue. It is the best cold blue around. It actually looks and wears like typical hot blue.

I'm planning on hot bluing one of my Windlass Khuks when I strip it to make new scales for it. My plan is to make mahogany scales and brass pommel and bolster.
Then I may make a new scabbard.

Parkerizing would look good, too.

My Bonecutter lost it's mirror shine the first time I started chopping with it. I'm OK with that, since I bought it to use.
I wax my blades with stock wax(carnauba), though any carnauba automotive wax would be about as good. I use stock wax because it doesn't contain any abrasive polishing agents.
You can also wax blued guns to prevent rust. It lasts longer and looks better than oil on the surface of the metal.
