Mirror polish finish folder

I don’t believe SAKa are ā€œmirrorā€ polished.

Just checked some of mine to be certain: to my eye that's about as polished as it usually gets; I see no tool or other surface marks at all; the surface is flat and shiny. I also can see myself reflected in the blade with a bit of distortion. A perfect mirror? Perhaps not, but far above any matte or other common finishes.

Can you give an example of what you'd consider to meet the "mirror" standard? Is there a widely recognized difference between "polished" and "mirror polished" that I am unaware of?

Thanks!

Personally I really don't like a blade polished on a buffer wheel Yup they are shinny as hell will blind ya in the sun if it's a good job, it's easy to do in a few minutes if your careful and have the right stuff to do it ~

Personally I will sit in my chair with a nice cloth and a little little light polish and work my knives with my fingers while watching a good movie

Makes the deeper looking Finnish as possible ~ IMHO

I have a Case (Canoe, I think) with 2 mirror polished blades. I use one of the blades to cut pills in half, open boxes, etc. and the mirror blade still looks good.

This isn’t the best picture, (another pic of the Spartan I modified and posted above), but THIS is a true mirror polish. Just like the name suggests, the finish is an actual mirror which reflects clearly and cleanly. Check out some Rockstead pictures for more examples.

My SAKs have highly polished blades. They’re finished on a buffer of some sort just like a mirror finish, but they aren’t true mirrors because the surface isn’t perfectly flat before the buffing takes place. That’s why your reflection is distorted (and probably has a bit of egg shell texture).

It’s much more time consuming/expensive to make a true mirror than a polished blade.

I agree with scdub. I have SAK knives and they are shiny but not like a mirror polish such as Edmund Davidson or Gil Hibbon puts on a blade.
