Mirror polishing question

So just out of boredom, earlier today I decided to sand off some nicks and scuffs off the pommel and guard of my Buck 119 and while I got rid of most of them, it has left the pommel and guard with a flat brushed look. Is there a simple way to put a mirror polish back on it without the use of an electric sander/buffer? Would a good polishing paste work?

Depends how coarse the initial sanding was (what grit?). At any rate, a fairly tightly-knit sequence of increasingly finer grits should shine it up relatively quickly. The pommel & guard on that knife are aluminum alloy, if I recall. So it should be fairly easy on that soft(ish) metal. Wet/dry sandpaper, in a sequence like 600/800/1000/1500/2000, followed by some polishing paste like Simichrome or Flitz, should work very well.
