Mirrored edges

So, I just took a look at a few different sharpening systems. The Lansky Deluxe Diamond goes for 100, while the Edge Pro Apex goes for 150 without diamond stones and the Edge Pro is much more expensive, and the Wicked Edge is 250. Are the latter systems that much better than the Lansky? As Mystro said, I can get great results with the Lansky. What are the other systems offering besides higher prices?

Versatility. Better results. Quality.

Yeah, I took a look at those. Very impressive. Did you do that using the sharpmaker angle device, or more freehand? How rigorous did you have to be in maintaining an exact angle, or was it more of maintaining an even pressure and stroke?

I do everything freehand--I just use the rods from the sharpmaker, and hold them in my hand.

The back bevel ends up having a slight convex shape to it, I'd say no more than 2-3 degrees, because freehand is not as precise as a system. But it's also far less expensive.

The angle does have to be fairly exact if you don't want to scratch up your knife. The first few knives I sharpened this way I managed to scratch up the blade a bit. I use just a slight amount of pressure.

On the diamonds I move the knife against the stone, slowly. Once I get to the rods, I hold the knife still, and move the rod quickly and lightly over the knife.

The Lansky will last a lifetime. I have yet to see a result from another system that was better than I could do with a Lansky system. I reprofiled a $550.00 Strider with the Lansky system without any trouble. I get everything out of the Lansky system I could ever use/need.

Could you qualify that a bit? Like how they're more versatile? What can they do that the Lansky can't? Do they create a sharper edge? Is the Lansky not going to last as long? Thanks for the help.
