Misch metal rods

I'm mailing out 12 rods tomorrow. We said we were going to do 10 but I had 3 emails with exactly the same time so in the interest of fairness I'm mailing 2 more than we said.

I've become a real fan of these rods once I got the hang of them. Not as easy as regular ferro rods to get sparks but will light up the world when it comes to "iffy" tinders and burns longer than ferro rods. I've found the best way to use them is to place them over your tinder and rip the rod backwards along your sharp edge to direct the molten lava into your tinder bundle. :)

Right on! can't wait to get the fire starter. Im REALLY looking forward to putting this thing through its paces side by side with the firesteel. considering doing a video if not that at least pictures.

yea im always looking for a new excuse to step off into the woods. this happens to be a perfect "excuse"

haha i was so eager to try it i didnt include my adress or notice i was like a day late...sorry guys..pictures please!!!

Got mine today also, will do a review with pictures tomorrow.

An initial test strike, REALLY gave off some sparks!

These things are sort of like mini Roman Candles :D

Mine's in my pocket right now, but I'm not sure they'd appreciate me trying it out here in the student union. It will be going along camping this weekend, though.

i just got mine in the mail, wish i had time to play around with it today
just preliminary observations:
it is a bit heavier, i think, than the ferro rod, probably because of the thickness of it.
it is a lot softer, in my opinion, than the ferro rods, it almost feels like lead
the striker that comes with the ferro rods did not work , i was only able to get sparks using a knife blade, and the number of sparks was definitely less tan i would get with a ferro rod, but the sparks lasted a lot longer
I will go out and test it more thoroughly this weekend, hopefully.

You're not kidding! My son called me at work today and was STOKED, begging to open the package and fondle the fire starter. So when I got home this evening we headed outside to check it out.

First off, all you need to do is strike it quickly (with a sharp knife) It sparks right up and throws out a small ball of flame. My son actually got the hang of it a little quicker than I did. We used dryer lint, underneath some dry twigs for our starting medium and it worked fantastic.

I'm going to lend it to a friend of mine and let he and his son play with it... (come on, we all have a little bit of pyro in us afterall)

All and all we're pretty impressed with this little item. We started about four fires in about as many minutes. Good father and son time.

Thanks again Jeff for this little gift. Have a good one.:D

I just got this in the mail today. I plan on playing around with it this weekend and posting some pics and a review.

Thanks again - you guys are awesome!

Got mine today too. Thanks Jeff! Hey, how do you get a road named after you?

Can't wait to test it out this weekend. I'll be doing a comparison with an army firesteel on various tinders and see how things go.

Cheers
