Missed opportunity.

I’m pretty sure I’ve ogled over your new knife on their website. I’ve been visiting it daily and going over all the pics and videos of folders. The bronze scales are oh so tasteful. Elegant and suitable for any formal occasion. My prior machine shop life helps me recognize manufacturers that are beyond outstanding. Mr. Herman runs one of these companies.

Today 3 or more full dress models on the website. Too soon for me still. Ouch oh well next go……..

I wondered if you were going to pull the trigger on the full dress slim15 (larger blade than the sting)

I’ve settled into a perfect selection of EDC choices for a retired handy guy. I was maneuvering to purchase a very special Herman I saw on their website yesterday and todayfind it was sold yesterday. Lesson: hesitation can mean a near miss of something rare and desirable. My bad timing. So my plan is sell a guitar then be ready to pull the trigger the moment I find the right Herman.

He who hesitates is lost

Yeah that is a sweet blade. That would have been my choice as well if I were to get one of them. I have a couple of full dress knives, reality is that they just sit in the drawer. It’s not not the money as I routinely carry full customs that are at least the same price, it just is not my style. I like the looks of them, but not in my pocket.

I wish I was not so attracted but I do have a bit of a problem resisting shiny things. Maybe I’m part Brook Trout!

Hahaha It does look like my advise to go "all in or not at all" in a PM was already being considered a full week before given 😂

However, while I could not got "all in" right now, I didn't go with just plain scales. Instead of the plain bronze regular size Sting, I went for a slightly fancier Mini Micro Sting. It's about the size of the Benchmade Mini Griptilian that I carried for over a decade, but I kinda want a full size Herman now. This was supposed to be my one and only Sting/Mini Sting, and I lied to myself.

I do have to send an email to them now, because the webpage said I was buying "Mini Sting 89" with M398 and the blade is marked M398, but the certificate says Rc 62 in M390.

While these look terrific my heart drops when I see the price, they have great reviews and I’d love to handle one but it’s just not in the cards for me right now

While these look terrific my heart drops when I see the price, same when I look at one of the PANERAI watches, I showed my wife one that was just a bit over $10k and I said, you know, father's day is coming up soon ;) she laughed and laughed...

need to read it with the typical Shatner dramatic pause added

As I use to say, it's only paper, you hand over a pile of paper, they give you something with a value that you truly are enamored with, at least for the time being...

Thanks for pointing out the discrepancy on my knife blade vs COA.

It’s gorgeous!

It’s gorgeous!

The newly posted Micro Sting with Timascus inlay is even better looking, but (1) it was not available when I bought mine and (2) my inlay with textured titanium might actually give me more grip on the handle than the Timascus inlay on the current offering.

EDIT - I'm going to swap out the Sebenza 31 PJ in my right front pants pocket for the Herman this weekend, and see if I have the courage to use it or to just show it off. I'll still have my UTX-85 and Manix 2 S110 regrind and SAK in the other 3 pockets...

That black Timascus full-size Sting appears to be gone now...

I’ve always liked these Herman knives ever since I saw it on Metal Complex’s video. The milling work is outstanding.

I like your textured inlay the second I saw the photos. In fact, I’d be much more comfortable carrying and carefully using your knife than the full dress models. I’m rethinking level of trim but am still thinking full sized Sting.

Yeah, I would not be afraid to carry this Micro Sting, and the textured inlay is good if you're holding it with a pinch grip with your thumb on the textured inlay, which is how it would be used for opening mail and amazon packages, or cutting some food. I wont be breaking down boxes, whittling sticks, or bush crafting with it.

It reminds me a lot of my small William Henry Ti/Damascus that was about $600, to use as a gentleman's knife; but the WH strikes me as a more fragile blade/edge, while being a little bit smaller. My William Henry has a very thin Damascus blade with mirror polished edge, and I don't know if my current tools to restore that edge are good enough.

The $3000 full dress Hermans might be best for displaying like a trophy 😅 but I don't think that will stop me. It's the only high end custom knife I want. I do really like the maxed out models.

Hmmm, I fear you may have talked me into it. I probably want one more than I do my Rolex Pepsi GMT II, so it looks like I may have something akin to a guitar to sell, in order to fund my wishes...

Closing this chapter. My time has come to enter the Herman Knives ownership.
My wife bought me this for my upcoming birthday. 🥰

That's great, congrats! Also, you're so much cooler looking in pics when we aren't looking down from your head to your feet! 😄

Did you notice all the hints I dropped earlier in this thread, about what I was going to do about a big Herman purchase?
