mission impossible?

I have a homemade bandsaw made from mostly wood. I think my saw length is around 63 inches.
I bought it about 15 years ago from an old retired machinist. The only drawback I have with it is its narrow cutting area. (about 4-5 inches), otherwise it will cut all day, including titanium using a 14-18 bimetal blade.
He told me he made it from plans that were printed in a Popular Mechanics book. If there even exists a web site for old Popular Mechanics articles, I would start looking back at least 20 years.
It's a little late tonight to take pictures, but if you don't find the plans I can snap a few photos for you.

I bought a set of plans years ago from Lindsay Publications
Never did make the saw,as Bruce said Harbor Frieght is the way to go

Check out Centaurforge.com They have a number of homemade how-to's, I think I have even seen a lathe and a power hacksaw in their books, they may have one on a bandsaw.

i have had no probs with my harbor freight metal cutting bandsaw. picked it up for 159$. bought a good bimetal blade though. this is probably cheaper than making your own.
 
I am going the Harbor freight route in the next week or two. This hacksaw thing is getting old.:D
 
I'll try to get up a few pics of the bandsaw in the next couple of days.
Actually it is sort of a novelty and not much to look at, but it cuts. I bought a 7" shaper off of him and he gave me a good deal on the bandsaw.
Unless your into building things like this I would go with the HF bandsaw as well.

being from the south, I just had a "hey ya'll watch this moment!" got a lead on a decent bandsaw, just though I would ask around.
 
Lincoln Electric's "Arc Welded Projects, Volume III" Has plans and a materials list for a homemade horizontal bandsaw. Looks like quite a project, I'd probably buy a cheap import and modify before I tried starting from scratch if it were me.
