Mission knives

Mike C thanks for the info, Bladeforums is amazing. You were correct mine says MFK2 being a tanto. The tanto seems less of an acute angle than the other models I've seen, Check out the non/professional sharpening job

Yea, just remember those knives were designed and made by John, I think I may even still have the prototype drawings he sent me when he was designing it. He had emailed me a copy to check it out and see what I thought. I don't care for the skeletonized handle I prefer solid slabs like the original MPF series but hey what do I know? Thanks for the pix though I always to like to see pictures of other Missions, it helps reinforce the fact that mine aren't the only ones out there. I say that kinda jokingly because their just so dang rare. Even rarer or plain edge models, their just hard to find as there weren't a whole lot of any particular model made in large runs in PE.

I must be really expensive to machine the blade.

I was interested in getting one, but from what I've read from the owners of these knives, I'm going to leave them to other life forms to find.

I want a knife to use in this life-time please.....

It is very expensive to machine the blade and other parts the whole things, everything on every folder is titanium. Moveover the materials cost are also high and last but not least the heat treat protocol for the beta c blades is extremely complex and difficult from what I have been told. I could be wrong on that but I've heard from more than one source it is a bear to do and nail it and if its not hit exactly right it is either going to make the material entirely too soft for any kind of edge retention (cutting ability) or is going to make the thing so brittle it will snap like a dry twig. Again, I don't know if this is true this is just what I've been told over the years from a few people who should have known what they were talking about, but again that is all second hand info.

That knife there just looks fragile and cheap compared to the one I have. Sad really. Not to put down someone's knife but it just doesn't look all that great to me. I think some beveling around the edges instead of being squared off and unfinished looking would really improve it. I'm not really all that attracted to the skeletonized look or the pivot and screws either.

Mike--- I get around to it eventually. ;)
I like that folder. I agree with Steve in that the knife design needs an up-grade.

Is it true that you need a set of sharpening equipment for these titanium knives separate from steel knives or else they'll conduct magnetism?

It is best to use diamond sharpeners of whatever brand you choose and yes you don't need to use the same stones, or whatever to sharpen your steel blades are else you will contaminate the Titanium blades, thus giving the blade a magnetic signature as you have temporarily fused (for lack of better word) a ferrous metal (containing iron) to a non ferrous metal. Eventually the ferrous metal particles that fused to the titanium blade will rust off or out. However if your an EOD (Explosive Ordnance Demolition) soldier this will get you get killed as many anti-personnel devices have a trigger that is sensitive to ferrous metals which give off a magnetic signature because of their iron content.

Hope that helps.

Hi everyone!
I just passed by and saw this post about Mission. I've 3 Mission Knives and I can attest their quality. I do understand it's hard to communicate with them, but "they're still alive". I've ordered another knife some months ago and I'm waiting it to be ready, so I'll have 4 Mission Knives. One year ago I had none, I have to tell you these knives are good.

I initially bought a MPK10 to use as dive knife, but I found it too big for just recreational diving, so I ordered a MPD. I also have a MFK.

I made a couple of reviews on Mission's forum (I hope I'm not going against any rule for linking them here):

As you can see from the images, they're good knives.
The MPK and the MPD are from pre-Anthony era. The folder has the new logo, it's made by the new owner, Anthony.

Hope you like the pictures!
