Mission MPF1 Tanto

Rolf, I had sent the new owner a list of suggestions for new folders which were just basically modifications and improvements to the existing MPF models based off of my actually using the knives in the field for hunting and fishing in South Louisiana.

I don't think any of them were followed, it is my understanding that some new folders are in the works but I don't think from what I've seen there going to be an improvement at least from a user stand point, maybe from a collector stand point where the knife will be a safe queen. The new ones look tacticool but without the design problems being mediated people who actually buy these things to use them are going to be pissed off as the material is kick ass and will virtually last forever, but it does you no good if because of design problems the knife if actually used is going to wear out in 3 years.

The fixed blades are fine and are good to go its just a straight piece of metal, but again the folders have some problems that need to be addressed are their going to have problems with pissed off customers unless as I'm starting to suspect that many of the folders are being sold to people who aren't using them very much or at all and most of these knives are sitting in safes, cases, drawers are even a pocket but their not seeing any use.

AlphaHunter, enjoy your knife I think you'll be surprised as how sharp it comes and how well the edge holds and the over all durability of the edge. When I first went to get one I got tons of the same comments one guy even told me I must have a been a fantasy gamer to even be considering a titanium knife. Well, I got one anyway and I was very surprised with how sharp it was and how long it stayed sharped, also the fact that you could beat the hell out of the thing and the blade would not chip. I only rolled a small portion of the edge once when I was cutting some fairly thick metal wire that was encapsulated in a heavy plastic sheathing. If my knife had been sharper I don't even think small roll in the edge would have happened, it would have just sliced right through it.

I have helped many people get their first one and even sold three people their first one, I get the same response eventually after some use from everyone. Wow, I really like this knife and the titanium holds an edge a lot better than I thought it would.
Thanks for this. Greatly appreciated. ;)

Here is a link to a NIB Mission MPF 3 TI PE for sale on ebay right now and it shows some of the lock problems out of the box on one that is NIB. Look through the pictures and find the ones that show lock bar engagement. Notice how far over the lock bar is already traveling over the face of the tang and this knife is NIB. Compare this to some other older Mission MPF 3 TI PE I had that had awesome premature lock and the knives I'm carrying now small regular sebenza and buck mayo tnt 172. No comparison the lock up both knives is premature meaning that a portion of the lock bar is actually left exposed and not even engaged with the tang, and lock is rock solid. The lock up on the buck mayo tnt 172 is unreal.

I see what you are talking about. Thanks for pointing that out.

The right Titanium alloys CAN hold a reasonable edge--you just have to have the wallet for it. For me the increase in corrosion resistance isn't worth the sacrifice in the price department. I'm all set with Spyderco's H1 if I need it THAT corrosion resistant. :o

If you have the bills, though, I say go for it.:thumbup:

good on ya, nothing's worse than being caught out in the open by a pack of samurai with nothing but a clip-point. more people are killed that way every year than die in automobile accidents.

I bet in your own mind you're very clever and funny.

For all intensive purposes, titanium does not hold an edge, as a matter of fact, it doesn't even take much of an edge.

It doesn't get very sharp, and it doesn't hold that dull edge worth anything anyways. Unless you absolutely need something that won't corrode ever it's a waste. H1 steel is the way to go, or even that cobalt alloy that's out there.

What buisiness do you have stabbing anything or anyone wearing "armor?" Titanium will just bend if it hits steel, you won't penetrate armor, especially not with a knife, you could cut fabric, but not armor. Which is classically steel plating.

You are obviously mistaking 6Al4V Titanium, used for scales and handles, with Beta-Titanium, used in Mission Knives' blades. Here are some links you should check out:
