The guy I learned the very basics from is now gone and am just searching for someone that is interested in knife making in SW ms that may be little better than me who can share there experience with me and help with some hollow grind issues

Where are you located, I'm outside of Hattiesburg, MS. There's a few knife makers around our area, all are probably better grinders than me though.

And this is why unnecessary abbreviations are bad. Do you mean MS as in Master Smith or Mississippi? Clarifying that in your thread title will get you a better response.

I live in Brookhaven Mississippi.hattiesburg is like 100 miles away but yes I would be very interested in any assistance thanks

I give hattiesburg as a reference only, as most people don't know where Bassfield is. I'm about 50 miles from Brookhaven, not too far from Collins. PM me if you want to meet up some time.

I'm in Crystal Springs but I'm pretty sure I know even less than you do.

PM me if you want to.

Thanks I sent you a email also don't think I can pm if I'm not a paid member gotta do that asap

Email reply sent. It has pictures attached. Look forward to seeing your work.

Man Mississippi is lacking some KNIFE makers

Just because they didn't reply to your request doesn't mean they aren't there.

However, for some reason Mississippi does seem to have less knifemakers than one would expect. The Knives Annual only lists about 15. Most states have a lot more. Rhode Island has 7 listed.
There are many makers in the surrounding states.

They used to hold a show in Biloxi that had a lot of makers at it.

If you really want to polish your skills, consider attending the ABS Moran School of Bladesmithing in Washington, Arkansas. They have classes in many specialized areas, like handles and guards or engraving, as well as the general introduction classes.

There is also the Piney Woods Hammer-in held once or twice a year in Washington, Arkansas. It has classes for two days with great folks to teach as well as to meet and chat with. You will definitely meet some MS makers there ( both types).

I don't know if you got it, but I did email you with an invitation. I know there's more than 15 knife makers in MS, a lot though don't get on line or have websites or advertise.
