Yes a lot more than 15...I'm from the coast, but just a novice hobbyist.

The local club (http://www.gulfcoastcustomknifemakers.com/Members.html) seems to have about 40 members and usually there are 5-8 custom makers at every gun show I've been too since I got started piddling with making blades.

I keep meaning to make trips to hammer ins and shop visits that I've been invited to, just never seem to find the ever elusive "when I have some free time" ;)

Just because they didn't reply to your request doesn't mean they aren't there.

However, for some reason Mississippi does seem to have less knifemakers than one would expect. The Knives Annual only lists about 15. Most states have a lot more. Rhode Island has 7 listed.
There are many makers in the surrounding states.

They used to hold a show in Biloxi that had a lot of makers at it.

If you really want to polish your skills, consider attending the ABS Moran School of Bladesmithing in Washington, Arkansas. They have classes in many specialized areas, like handles and guards or engraving, as well as the general introduction classes.

There is also the Piney Woods Hammer-in held once or twice a year in Washington, Arkansas. It has classes for two days with great folks to teach as well as to meet and chat with. You will definitely meet some MS makers there ( both types).

Stacy , there are apro 8-10 makers around me. That is Gulfport- Biloxi, and up to lower Stone county. Some are very good. Like Paul Lebetard and Baux Ricotta.

I am in the Picayune area, about an hour and a half from you. I also have a friend who makes knives in Jayess, which is pretty close to Brookhaven. Email me tony@tonymillerknives.com if you want to get together sometime.
Tony
