I don't really know where to post this so I'm going to post here because GKD is kind of what this post is about in a way.

When I first joined this forum I was relatively new to the whole forum thing and still learning that it's not the best thing to just jump right in before simply hanging around and getting the lay of the land.

I was at a place in my knife journey where I was realizing I no longer liked most modern folders I was seeing, and in that making the switch to traditionals.
It wasn't necessarily a decision that I had chosen to make and wasn't ready to completely give up on modern knives.
With this It took a while to realize that GKD probably wasn't the section for me to frequent so much. I was often posting when I shouldn't about how I disliked the looks of this or that and I know I got on some nerves with how often I was doing this.
I have since relized that there's really no going back to modern folders for me any time in the foreseeable future, and have kept my posting in GKD fairly low knowing there's not much in this section for me to do other than complain about the appearance of modern knives.

I just want to apologise for how I've acted around here in the past, I've been trying to be much more productive and less of a problem around here. If I don't have anything nice to say I shouldn't say anything at all and that's what I've been trying my best to do.

And the ever present typos I've been working on as well, I use a smartphone which for one I'm not that great at typing with but also a phone that happens to have a weird issue with this forum that I can't figure out. I reread everything but don't catch everything.

You certainly got off to a rocky start at Blade Forums (a year plus ago). ;) But I was pretty forgiving. I also lean toward traditional knives, but I continue to buy a few modern knives. As you know I carry a SAK all the time which is a traditional knife. The second knife IF I decide to carry one is often a modern and lately it has been the Benchmade Mini Presidio II which I really like. To me it feels like a big knife, but it is precisely sized in the Native-Delica area, just fatter in the handle. My knife evolution moves forward but I try not to be very opinionated about my dislikes especially. I know that some folks like what I don't care for.

It is kind of like flashlights which I like and have liked them for years. Depend on them all the time, like every day. But some of my favorite flashlights are in the 200 lumens area and that certainly doesn't win too many points with the flash light aficionados. But I'm comfortable with this. I don't recall anyone ever liking my cheapie choices. :D

I get more typo's when I use my tablet with the auto correct feature. I miss the changes and post.... then re-read. I don't use a cell phone to visit forums. You will often see that I have edited a post and it is usually for typos. Get yourself a 8" tablet and you won't use your smart phone again to view the forums.

You post a lot and I enjoy your posts.
See, I had to correct the spelling on a word... edit

Yes I'm a very opinionated person, and not voicing them all the time with anyone other but family has been a problem for me that I have been trying to work on.

I know there's still a few modern knives I wanted as a teenager that I never got to try, I still feel like I wouldn't mind trying them but I know they would not do anything for me these days.

I'm not bothered by some "attitude" , within bounds . This just reflects a certain passion for the hobby . ;)

I do strongly object to the gang bullying , systematic harassment and campaigns to ban other members . Never much noticed you as part of that :poop: !

In the last month or so, you made a post or started a thread and for some reason I began remembering when you first joined and thought to comment on the change for the better. But that was off topic and un-needed actually.

I'm used to some attitude from members. Just part of the turf.

Don't close your eyes to moderns. There are some real nice knives out there.

Heck . . . now you tell me.
From day one I just jumped in with "anything but thin knives suck" posts.
That was a bad idea huh ?

Now years later now . . . well . . .
all I can say is . . .
Anything but thin knives suck.
I was often posting when I shouldn't about how I disliked the looks of this or that and I know I got on some nerves with how often I was doing this. . . . I just want to apologize
Hmmm I didn't notice. I was probably busy posting a lot of the same.

I do enjoy some typos and translations in tech manuals : "Be sure to chamfer round top side to prevent jumpinng and knocking" . . . that sort of thing.

Lets put some modern locks and real blade steel into some Traditionals and show 'em how it all could be !

A Trapper with some jimping, an axis lock and a 1.5 mm blade at the spine in M4.
Nahhhhhhhhh that would be like . . . useful and stuff.

Give 'em hell dude :)

Not part of, but definitely the subject of I'm sure.

If I could do it all over well I reckon it's how I learned these lessons but I'd rather have not been that way when I first joined.
I'm not done growing and learning, but whether it shows or not I feel like I've come a decent way since then.

Most new members often over generalize. That is what I did and was corrected for it.

I recall when I first joined Rimfire Central as I am all about 22 firearms.... I made a statement like "I can shoot the eye out of a squirrel or rabbit at 100 yds with this rifle." Well, I probably can do that, but it might take a few tries (and some luck). The first question is almost always "how does it group at 100 yds?" "What ammo?" The fact is I seldom shot over about 60 yards with any 22 rifle and expected to hit. I was all about cheaper ammunition for many years. So, we learn about these generalizations. I guess I just wanted people to know that I knew a thing or two, but in fact knew very little beyond the basics.

My NEBO 50 single AA battery flashlight is the Rodney Dangerfield of the illumination world.

But, onto the tablet comment: Three years ago I asked the Mrs. if she would like an Amazon Fire. NO! was what I got back. I kept thinking she would like it so the following Christmas they were priced under $50.00, I bought two. When it came time to open presents she was less than happy about it but I told her to give it a go and within a month she completely stopped using her laptop and the smart phone only gets used for telephone calls ... who'da thunk it? Since it has not been turned on in 2½ years I think it might be time to see if the battery will hold a charge and check for updates, eh?

Rykjeklut: What did I miss ... or cause?

I would have asked how big is the squirrel? But, seriously, back when we were both much younger there was a 6 foot 3.5inch tall rabbit hanging out with Jimmy Stewart and I am quite certain with some of my old stock TENEX, my Anschutz 1413 topped with a 24X Redfield 3200 I could get that pooka at 100 yards, and I am sure you could too. While it doesn't compare with the optical quality of today's top tier Vortex offerings the mirage may make seeing Jimmy's wabbit a bit tough.

I kind of felt the same way before I got a tablet and in fact seldom used it even after getting one. What's my dominant use? Kindle books... I have a b&w Kindle, but I like the screen resolution on my tablet better than the Kindle Paperwhite. Plus I can zoom in on pictures and so forth if I want to. I also use it when I travel if I want to look at google maps or "a second opinion" over my dashboard gps.

Per your comment and wives.... My wife got a "free" small apple ipad from the cell phone folks. She didn't use if for months and months over her laptop. You have remember that we were paying a monthly fee on that tablet (free or not)..... anyway, I set the thing up for her and she tried it out. Now she doesn't even use her laptop for anything. I especially like the 8" tablets for reading and overall portability (and use). They are pretty cheap now if you get wifi only. I still can't envision using a tablet for typing much, but you don't usually type volumes on forums and so forth.

The Anschutz sporter is my dream 22 rifle. I could get one if I wanted actually. But I do have a number of what are considered very good 22 rifles. Some have not even been shot which I hate to admit sometimes. Just not shooting like I used to and there is an ebb and flow to these kinds of things. Even let my membership lapse at the local range because I seldom used it.

The $50 Fire is 7 inches I believe and while I have been OK with it I can see getting a larger one. The eye Dr. told me I have the beginnings of cataracts but they are not ripe yet. I get big flares when seeing headlamps, street lamps or just about any lighting after dark and the twilight driving into the sun is very difficult and I suspect that these issues will only be exacerbated with time so I will be looking into up-sizing somewhere down the road. The Mrs. uses her Fire to watch movies ... not for me I would rather be reading.

Wife had gotten a larger Ipad since the first one. I noticed her using it at home. I got a message from Verizon that my data was almost used up..... checked and she had not switched it to accessing the home wifi. That got fixed quick. She watches movies on her's too which I don't understand. I made a hospital visit yesterday and took my tablet with me.... could have cruised the forums or read. I read. Most that have not tried out a tablet versus a book are missing out on the convenience of reading on one. Plus, you finish a book and can get another one immediately if you choose and the cost is usually less. The cost has been going up however as people use them more as one might expect. Can't see going back to paper myself except for manuals, field guides, and so forth.

H&S, give a tablet a try. You will probably like it especially if you read books like I do. I think Kindle said I have read every day for something like 50 weeks or something most recently. They keep stats and obviously can interpret your reading speed and your preferences. I find the targeted marketing to be really amazing, but sometimes irritating.
