ML Knives Firebite

Here are the results of a dialogue between Matt Lesniewski of ML Knives
and I. A long time ago, I wanted a metal arrow head that looked pretty rustic and
was truly a custom piece. After I was discussing it
with Matt, the idea popped up: Why couldn't it be a good ferro rod striker
too?

This is the ML Knives "firebite" prototype. It is a talisman that also
functions as a ferro rod striker! The point is made from 1095 steel. He
has the heat treatment and edge geometry fine tuned so it can really spit
a spark. This particular piece is 2" long and weighs in at about 17grams.
They retail for about $25 and up varying on complexity of the design, as
Matt can do almost any kind of arrow or other symbol you want. You could feasibly
draw or pick your arrowhead and he will work with you to come close to
your design.

I tested the prototype on a variety of natural tinder, and it scored
great on all of them! Check out the videos for a look at the firebite in
action.






This custom piece is a fun design with a hidden purpose. Each point is
one of a kind, and a part of the person who shaped it. You will see it
around my neck at our next gatherings!

i thought i had remembered seeing some pics of this a while back................ i want one even more now...:D

Hmmm, looks like pitdog had a mind meld with you on this one! Looks great. I was thinking of getting a flint arrowhead for similar purposes.
 
Dude - I would buy a bunch of those and have my wife make custom necklaces for them - I could get some sinew or rawhide cordage to complete it.

That is pretty bad assed.

Sharpen one edge enough for cutting and leave the other side blunt to rest your finger on and that's the same as my design right there more or less !:eek:

I even e-mailed Matt and sent a link to my thread as I thought it was the kinda thing he'd like to do, he said it looked a good idea but never mentioned that he had already made one similar !!!!
 
Thanks for posting this up Joe...Yeah Pit this design is kinda kinda close to what you had in mind. I was wondering on your deign if you were thinking two sharp edges or one, but now I know. Shotgun. These are 1095. I stamped 01 on it for (Zero, one) First one I did. These are available custom order.
