Matt (ML Knives) sent me this great custom Woods & Bush Knife last week. I do believe that I'm really going to enjoy this one.

The blade is forged from 1095, about 4-1/2" from handle to point. The tiger stripe maple handle is a generous 4-3/4" with nice palm swells. I had Matt make the scales a little thicker for my XL hand, and he did a super job sizing the handle to my request. The knife balances on the index finger, which I prefer with a medium-sized knife. Having whittled down some of my woodpile out back for an hour or two, the Woods & Bush Knife was most comfortable to work with and proved itself very adept on the finer points of woodcraft. With its 1/8" spine and razor edge, the light weight knife slices and dices just dandy in the kitchen, as might be expected.

Not a bad looking knife to tote around with my curly maple muzzleloaders either. I still need to build a sheath for this one when I can get my name on the list. :)

that's a beauty... matt makes some great knives... i really like those... hmmmm.. i might have to order one...:o

I have a knife from him and it is most definitely not going to be my last. I am doodling another one right now for him to do.

Edit: Great knife by the way.

I've been looking at that knife on his site for weeks now, I think I may have to pull the trigger on one. They look amazing.

I'd be really, really thankful if you could get an in-hand pic of that! My hands are often on the XL end of the scale too, and is the limiting factor in a lot of blades for me.

His knives all look good to me. Love the rustic style he has.

That design looks excellent for a woods walking blade, and Matt really knows his stuff. When I first saw these I had to order one!

Thanks, all. I might add: Matt is tremendous to work with. His return emails (or calls) are prompt, and always very friendly. Just a real nice humble gentleman that you feel good about doing business with.

I will try to get a pic of the knife in-hand and post it here when I get in this evening. The knife feels like an extension of the index finger when you are working with it. Its design, weight, and balance will only let you do with the blade or cutting edge as you would please. For me, this allows plenty of control and dexterity for wood carving, fine tasks, evisceration, or even peeling potatoes and the like. The blade has plenty of length to reach the bottom of the peanut butter or mayo jar, too. :)

Yes, like you, I really have a difficult time finding a knife handle large enough for me to hang on to. Usually I will either make my own handles in the shop, or have the knife custom made by someone who understands the XL hand.
