Mnandi or small?

So I normally carry traditional knives only. But I have always had a soft spot for titanium frame locks. They are just amazing to me. Anyway I am getting a hankering for one again. I had a large Sebenza a long time ago but I'm not sure how I want to proceed with this. I need either the small or mnandi because of where I work, in an office. Which would y'all go with? Both interest me and I am having a tough decision. And no, both isn't an option:rolleyes:

yes

both

Okay, I know you said not both. But both tends to happen, if not simultaneously, eventually.

The question is, which one first. Is it is just going to be a letter opener, or are you going to go medieval on a stick?

Office environment I would say Mnandi, I'm sure the small Sebenza would work, I just think the Mnandi is less intimidating overall, IMHO.

I'm planning on it being an EDC I will whittle with it too, but that won't be an issue since I use medium stockmans all the time. This is bigger than that. And I was thinking mnandi too. What is nice about IMO is hat I can get one with wood inlays compared to a plain small. That is a biggie for me so far I think. Plus it would be different than anything I've had.

You can actually clip the mnandi to your shirt pocket and go about your business, it's that much less intimidating.

Some quick shots:
Umnumzaan thrown in there for kicks and giggles :D

Ok so they are roughly the same size like I thought. I think I am leaning towards the Mnandi. It's streamlined and nice. Guess I'll have to wait till my tax refu d then keep an eye on the exchange and eBay.

Sometimes sheeple need to be intimidated. The last office environment I worked in, I often carried Gerber Mark I.

Well I work in a goverment Contracting building with rules saying no knives. It's not enforced but I don't wanna push my luck. Also I do prefer the more "high falutin" looks of the Mnandi over a plain small Sebbie.

If I worked in an environment that had a "no knife" rule, I would carry a SAK or a Mini Griptilian. I would carry something neither very expensive nor flashy. Carrying an expensive knife just might be asking for someone of little authority to confiscate it and put it in their pocket. YMMV.

If you work in an office, I would go with a mnandi. If you must go with a sebenza, I would make sure its a decorated one. Women, ( no offense to anyone here ) do not always take kindly to knives, but if they see its a fancy wood version or a decorated, for some weird reason, it makes it easier. So the word "Sheople Friendly" born. I know with my own family, I once had a large night sky sebenza ( which was beautiful by the way ), and when I showed them and opened the blade they jumped back like I had a jedi light saber. I think most has to do with blade size.........I personally would go with the mnandi. They are extremely tough knives. I have one I have in the slip sheath in my tool box with all my paracord tying tools. It is razor sharp and has a nice thin blade for delicate cuts. I have used mine for everything that normal edc entails and it has never disappointed. If your allowed to carry a knife and are able to get a mnandi, go for it. You see them on the exchange all the time for aprox. $300 and sometimes, even less. So you dont have to go the $400 route for a nice one.

+1.
Why take a risk with an expensive knife?

I agree with Lisa, in an office type workplace the Mnandi would fit the bill....now if you work in a factory or such the small Sab. would be perfect....just my two cents.....

The mnandi is noticeably smaller than the small Sebenza in hand. Its a very light knife too., If your mostly into traditional slip joints than the mnandi will fit you very well. With that said I always think you can never go wrong with the sebenza being your first CRK.

I would go with the Mnandi. I EDC'd one for about 6 months at my previous job which was in an office and it fit the bill perfectly. I always had mine in the slip sheath in my left pocket, it's so slim and light that often times I would forget that I even had it on me.

Ok yall convinced me. Mnandi it is. I'm excited now. I loved my large Sebenza back when I had it but that's too big for me now. Time to keep my eyes peeled. Any Mnandi related pictures would be lovely also :D

Send your Mnandi to Victorinox and have them put some red scales on it.

Seriously, I've thought the same thing....Swiss Armies have the distinct advantage of being people friendly. Wish someone would photoshop a red scale and shield onto a Mnandi just to see what it would look like.

I prefer the versatility of the small Sebenza over the Mandi.

A small with inlay, a UG or CG would make for a very classy, yet very tough knife.

I had a Mnandi for a while and found that I was not using it even in the work environment. For work I have a small Sebenza Insingo that goes into a CRK slip cover and into my pocket. Rides nice and does not even show with a pocket clip.
