Mnandis Through the Years - A History in Pics

Did they stabilize the ziricote, or is it all natural? It looks natural to me... but then again, I don't have 30 Mnandis to compare it to! LOL

Would it be possible to compile a list of all materials used in Mnandi inlays over the years?

This was a good read. I’ll be pulling the trigger soon on a Mnandi. Saving up and trying to find the right one.

Very Nice Collection/Timeline, I’m impressed, thanks for sharing.

I've slowly been warming up to CRK, mostly because of the Mnandi. I really like the spalted beech scales - does anyone know if this is American or European beech?

Also, if I order a knife is the 4 month wait period listed on the site what I should expect, or do people often get them earlier? Also, can I specify that I want darker scales or scales with more pronounced zone lines, or do I just order and hope I don't get light scales (not my preference)?

For a wood like that, go to a dealer site that shows the actual knife and choose.

Okay, good point. Unfortunately, there are few CRK dealers in Canada and most seem to be out of stock for Mnandis... I'm going to start keeping an eye closely on Mnandis being sold here, hopefully I'll scoop up one in time. Although it seems like they go very, very quickly!

Always loved Koa, looks fantastic.
Old nail nick on the way. Had a newer box elder burl, so curious to experience the difference.
Loan_Wolf, thanks for all the great information.
With much appreciation,
Edwin

Any pictures of the black ash burl inlay? I couldn't find any but I bet that's a nice one. Syringa is also a nice choice. Thanks for posting this list, I had no idea there were so many inlay options over the years.

In this thread.

I just ordered my first CRK today, a spalted beech Mnandi. I mulled this one over for about a month at least and even had a dream about it earlier this week (my first knife dream, sadly I was very disappointed with the Mnandi scales in the dream but I'm sure reality will prove otherwise!). I can't believe I'd ever spend that much $$$ on a knife but I had a good excuse to treat myself (which is how I've justified the last three big purchases too). I'll post pictures and my impression... I have to admit I'm a bit of a CRK sceptic but the Mnandi aesthetics won me over fairly quickly.

LW your collection is over the TOP!! I have been tempted on a couple of your Mnandi's. Hope to get one in the near future. Thanks for all your work putting this together and the photos are great!

What an enticing and dangerous thread!:D:thumbsup:

My interests are in Traditional knives but the Mnandi has really turned my head  The Pale Moon is astounding :thumbsup: How many were made? Such beautiful wood.

Thanks, Will

I got back from vacation and had a nice surprise waiting for me - my first CRK knife, a spalted beech Mnandi! What a beautiful knife and after all my indecision I am very pleased at the choice in scales. I've yet to actually use the thing, but fear not this knife will be a user. I bought this as a gift for myself for landing a nice new position and plan on having this in my pocket at work.

I have to admit there is a sort of faint feeling of being underwhelmed; I kept telling myself it was just a knife and not to expect too much, but the CRK mythos is so great that after reading so much, and dishing out that much money, I almost expected a magical blade. That isn't to say I am not impressed, this is a gorgeous knife! I was worried it would be a bit too small but I can get four fingers around the handle and the blade length is actually quite functional. The knife is essentially flawless. Although I am not too nit-picky, given the money spent and that it is a CRK I scrutinized it quite a bit and the only issues are the grind is slightly asymmetrical and the scales are not perfectly symmetrical (one scale is placed very slightly higher than the other). Very minor.

I will post pictures soon. I am quite pleased!

Just got my first Mnandi - striped platan here on BF. Very nice CRK. The striped platan is somewhat unusual. I'm still not sure what it is after researching it. I like it a lot and may add another to my small stable of knives. It seems delicate but powerful at the same time. The grip fits my medium size hands well. The fit and finish and grind seems near perfect to me. It does seem expensive but worth it IMO.
