Mod AD with Polished Handles

Have you ever smoothed out micarta like you did here, and then put new grooves back in? I've been thinking about doing that to my TH AD cuz the slabs don't look enough like my other Tiger Hide models. So I thought if I smoothed them out, and then carved down deep into them myself it might bring out the look that my other TH's have. Maybe with a pointy Dremel attachment? Is that crazy?

I have never tried redoing the machining cuts by hand and don't ever plan on doing it ;) It would just take up way too much time to get it to look even remotely close to what a CNC machine would do.

The batch of TigerHides that were used on the ADs are darker and quite a bit different than the ones you see in the LE knives. The TH in the LEs have a whole lot more tan canvas in them while these ones have a lot more dark brown/blk canvas in the mixture.

So smoothing out the handles and redoing the texture would not work to achieve the same look even if you could do it by hand.

If you want to bring out more of the tan yellow then you can sand down the blk/brown layer until you get to the lighter tan. But the problem with this is that the fabric are layered flat. If you tried to maintain that flat profile to get the dominate color then your handles will end up flat and blocky. I also noticed that they use a very thin layer of tan with a thicker layer of brown/blk on these AD tigerhides.

The tan is thinner, isn't it? The tan on the top layer as it comes from the shop is visibly very thin. The Sus Scrofa LE's have this same thing going on. Contrasted with the BA TAC LE's there's a visible difference in the top layer of brown. I imagined I could somehow file away a layer and get down to where it would look more like my Badger. I'd go and ruin a perfectly good AD doing that, wouldn't I?

those handles look awesome.

I vote for Ban to be Busse's warranty service center:D

Holy poop!

Just came in. This is frightenly sharp.

Ever hit a golf ball and the contact is so perfect you only hear the ball, you never feel it in the club?

That's what it's like slicing paper with this thing. NO resistance. NONE!

WOW!

Thanks again, Ban. WOW!

And the pix don't do it justice. He really polished up the micarta. Much better than I ever would/could have. And thinned it out as well. Not blocky at all to hold.

I can't wait to go slice somethin up.

I am glad you like it! You'll be surprised as to how well it cuts the next time you go out and slice something. No concrete and metal pipes please ;)

No, when I hit it realy well all I feel is kind of a solid shock that goes through my body all the way to my feet and then the ground shakes a bit.

Maybe that is why my index never got better than 1.1:grumpy:

.
