I would like to purchase this knife but thought I should get everyone's opinions first.

MoD= good stuff (not the best but its also not the most expensive). If you like the design get it, i dotn think oyu will be disapointed.

It is kind of expensive, and it is VERY thick! Don't expect it to cut well.
IMO... you should probably look elsewhere. But it is certainly well made.

Thanks for the input. I thought that the thick, narrow blade might not slice well. Anyone have some first hand experience with this blade?

I've handled it in the store, and liked it. It will be an addition to my collection eventually. If you buy it, make sure its not the version that says, "Lethal Force Institute" on the blade, because if you do use it for SD, cops, judge and jury wont like that too much...If you want a cheaper version of the knife, see the Cold Steel Spike and the United Cutlery Undercover Dagger, both are 420 (crappy steel, but will work as a last ditch weapon if you dont wanna spend 120 to throw away)....

Thanks hkbladelawhk. Are LFI markings on the newer blades or the "older" blades?

LFI are on the Older blades I think... but its been a while since I saw one.

Its not a bad knife, and MOD craftmanship is very good.

I have a MOD TRIDENT folder, and I carry it on a semi-daily basis with my Emersons. I've never had any issues with corroded blades, pivots, etc. I haven't had any issues with blade edge chipping or any flaking of the coating either. Its pretty easy to maintain its edge, and I can still do the "paper test cut" very easily. I've been very happy with MOD, and reccomend them and Emerson to folks that are looking for something other than a Benchmade.

The Razorback is a great knife for its intended purpose, self-defense. Someone on the forums once described it as 'sharp prybar.' To me, that pretty much tells the tale. The knife is not meant for daily EDC chores (too thick as others mentioned).
The whole thing is rather light, but tough (hard stabs into trees, boxes, etc). The handles felt good bare handed and with gloves. However, small amounts of moisture (sweat) did give a slippery feeling with moderate stabs.
I only take mine out when I feel the need for a small yet strong SD weapon.

Hope this helps.

Well, I am a metric type of person, the thickness of my Razorback is 4.4 mm and the widest point of the blade is 16 mm. What I did with mine is to resharpen the edge angle to suit my Spyderco Sharpmaker, and yes, I had to take off a fair bit of stock, took me a while on the Edge Pro Apex. Now I use the Sharpmaker to touch up the blade when needed......From a distance people think that its a steak knife......I don’t know about the full tang bit, but it is very strong, feels good in the hand......I don’t think that this knife is too expensive for what it is.....Few of my friends keep asking me if I want to sell mine, this is one of my keepers.....

i have 2 MOD razorbacks and think they are pretty good self defense fixed blades. they are not full tang but seem plenty strong, the sheath they come with is one of the best imho for edc, i wouldnt pay full retail price for one but $75 to $100 isnt too bad, the blade is thick, i thinned one of mine down with a edgepro, scratched/scuffed up the side of the knife some but sure cuts better, they are ok with the std edge though, not gonna be a razor though lol, i have had mine for a few yrs now and have carried it quite a bit, pretty good knife imho, not as good as a nealy or a strider but not as expensive either, ya could probably get better for the $$ though, i just like the looks myself, i have 2 because i got one and my wife had to have one, she never packed it much though.

It depends on what you want this thing for. Ayoob is a martial artist and designs knives like this for his own brand of hand defense. The blade is 154-CM, which is formulated for edge retention; however, it's a combat knife that's not likely to see much use in more mundane cutting use.

I wouldn't have much use for such a knife myself, but then I have a lot of knives that aren't likely to see much use. So it's up to you. I'm just a bit leery of reading Ayoob's columns about how this knife is every lawman's dream, then two months later he's raving about another knife. For a long time he was pushing primarily Sypdercos.

If you like it, it will do what other knives do. It will slice, dice and poke. It's designed to penetrate soft body armor and to slice, so if you're into the martial arts, you might find it's a good weapon. But like someone else mentioned, the blade's a bit thick for most everyday uses.

The blade's thick enough to provide
strength and pointed enough to
penetrate thick clothing and body
armor.

Well, all the pictures online show the LFI. The one I handled was at a local store (ripping customers off at the pathetic retail price $160), and there were no LFI markings on it. Your best bet, is to call the store you order it from in advance and ask...last thing you wanna do is carry a knife that identifies itself as a "deadly weapon", which knives are not weapons, they are in fact tools.

Premiumknives.com
1sks.com
newgraham.com
botac.com

they all have the Razorback for a good price, between 107 and 115.

The ATAC is effing huge, and pretty damn thick, im not sure really how to rate it, but its blade is a bit thicker than a kabar's blade, but with A2 steel. But the little things that stick out on the side are PERFECT for prying, pretty damn strong, though it depends on what you will be prying...

I actually just purchased a Mark VI Stinger (the ATAC's discontinued little brother), and am still waiting for UPS.

Yes, but knives also can (and quite often are) weapons. But there's nothing wrong with that! There is no dishonor in using a knife as a tool of defense. Many women used to routinely carry knives to defend themselves from the unwanted advances of brutal men and it's only been fairly recently that some elements of our society have spawned the lie that civilized people don't need weapons. Many people are alive today because they had a weapon with which to defend themselves.
