Hey there guys and gals.
I've been looking at getting the above mention knife but 175 USD is a bit steep for something I won't be able to handle first.

Crucible FX

Can anyone give me any info on this knife?

I'm led to believe that M.O.D/B.H.B are quality manufacturers but I would like some real info, not something that is read about in an article

Which would be the best to purchase, the fixed blade or the folder?
I was kinda swinging towards the fixed as I've already got a few good folders and some lined up.

I also have a thing for looks and this one appeals to me.

If not this knife could anyone suggest something similar in terms of price, appearance and quality?

Thanks in advance

You and me both! ;) But it's the folder for me.

I'm speaking in defensive/combatives use applications. When I handled the matched set (fixed and folder) at my friend/instructor's gear store, the FX seemed to "fit" better because it seemed less "boxy" than the folder. Maybe this was the trade-off when translating it to a folding platform? The grip's design really enhanced retention.

However, I do think that it would also do well for utility purposes since the blade was broad enough to raise the fingers slightly off the surface for cutting and spear point is a multi-tasker. I Googled a review of a hunter who used it on a hunting trip and praised it glowingly, especially its the edge holding ability.

Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks untamed.
How solidly does the folder lock up? and does it require much maintenance?

I have a few folders but I don't have a good smallish fixed blade yet so I figure I may just go with that

So how does the grip hold in the forward and reverse grips? Is it comfortable?
Cheers for the reply

I like the old school MOD's and own a Tempest and Trident. I think they are great knives and very well made with good ergo's. I also own a Mark II p.e. which I think sucks. Don't carry it, can't sharpen it to where it even gets anywhere's near sharp. Haven't handled a BlackHawk Crucible yet but I would bet it would be a good all around blade. But for the price asked I would look around a bit in that price range as you can probably find something with a bit better locking system, better/longer blade steel etc.etc. keepem sharp

G'day Mate! :D

I put my thoughts in this thread sometime ago but I still am trying to get info about it's long-term usage and performance from actual owners -

Here's a thread with detail pics, the last one showing the lock-up -

The grip was superb. The middle "valley" cut-out or where the middle finger rests on the handle-shape really indexes the hand in any configuration, forward or reverse. The whole thing looked/felt simple, functional and tough (I'd think less of Kelly McCann if the design wasn't such!). My minumum all-around EDC needs. My only gripe is that the blade could be longer even just a tad (+.25" would have made the cutting edge 3.5" but I think they compensated thru the blade's width) and wish it had a lock-back, although its liner lock is no slouch.

Thanks guys.

I have a M16-13LE with a 3.25" blade and that seems to be plenty for most things I do.

I think I'll put my hand up for the fixed blade version.

I'll write a review when I eventually get it

REVIEW - Please do when you get it! It seems that this brand and line of knives isn't that recognized. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance as well!
