I recently inquired at MOD about sharpening one knife and refinishing the blade on another. I got quick, polite responses, with reasonable prices (free + shipping for sharpening, $25 + shipping for refinishing). I had expected them to turn me away, since I made it clear that I am not the original owner of these knives.

This is in contrast to Microtech, which is slowly but surely getting a (deserved, I think) bad reputation for customer service.

I just like MOD's "how can we help?" attitude versus Microtech's "no, we don't do that". Last week I had one MOD; by next week I'll have four. If they keep treating me well, I'll just have to keep buying their knives. :D

hi klesk
what do you mean by refinishing? i have a trident with quite a bit of metal showing through the ticn, and would love to be able to get it refinished to the original black, if possible
there's also this niggling vertical blade play due to liner lock wear :grumpy:

how did you get in contact with them? the last time i tried their customer service email was down, but that was a very long time ago

MOD's CS is outstanding!!!!! Just call them. That's the best way. I don't have their # with me but you can get it from their site or I'm sure someone will pop up with it. They are true service orientated people!!

Hey DEA,

This is the e-mail MOD sent me:

"We can disassemble the knife, strip the black, bead-blast it, and reassemble
it for a charge of $25.00 plus $6.95 for return shipping and insurance.
Just send the knife with a short note confirming what you would like done
and contact information to 256 A Industrial Park Drive, Waynesville, NC
28786.

Take care,
MOD"

I e-mailed because I have a CQD II on the way that is supposed to have scratches in the black coating. If the damage is bad, I wanted to have the coating removed - I like uncoated blades for just this reason.

This is the second time I e-mail MOD for help and they got back to me right away. I'll post again once I get the CQD back.

That's what I'm talking about!!!!! A real company that really gives a dam!!!! I traded a for limited Trident a while back and the pivot screw was messed up.I called them and sent the knife back. They replaced the pivot and fine tuned the knife and sent it back no charge within one week!

sounds great~
i'll try emailing them and see what they say about shipping all the way to singapore :)

ooh
they apparently can strip the damaged black coating, apply a new one (DLC), create a sterile look and all for the same price of 20 + 6.95~!
ooohhhh
estimated time to finish 2~3 weeks :D

how did you pay them, klesk? i'd prefer to pay through credit card :)
international money orders from my country cost way too much imo

thanks~

DEA:

Since I live in the U.S., I just enclosed a personal check with my knife. I just sent off the CQD II to have the coating removed; I'll let you all know how it came out when I get it back.

hi there klesk
any update?
i just sent mine through registered mail
wondering if yours came back :D

i must say that MOD CS is first class now, VERY MUCH improved from a few yrs back, when it left a little to be desired imho, its good to see a company "turn things around" like they have. they sell pretty expensive knives and its good to know they back them up like they do. and pretty some darned good knives also imho.

hats off to 'em

I have known Jim Ray for a number of years. He is one straight arrow. He is one of the most honest person I have ever known. I wish I was a straight a arrow as him. I would trust him on any thing. So I Know he would run his shop the same way. He has always helped me beyond what is or was required. "take care".
