It's a liner lock, auto open. I tried to show that in one of my crappy iPhone pictures.

It's Auto open with the button only. Knife will not open with the thumb stud when closed. When closed and you release the blade with the button and stop the blade from fully opening, you can then use the thumb stud to lock it open, and/or snap it with your wrist to fully open and lock the blade.
