Still being a newby, i have another dumb questions...
MOD Mark II seems to get great reviews and also seems just the right size for edc 3 and 1/4 " blade, good lock, etc... and yet it is almost never listed in the top of edc lists or any wish list for that matter. Is there any reason? Is there something wrong with the knife, e.g. blade shape is wrong for utility uses?

I have the MOD CQD and MOD CQD Mark II. I keep them both on a table by the door, by my flashlights and canes and hats. :)

Both excellent general purpose and emergency service knives. About as reliable and easy to use as can be.

They have been around a while. They are great but no longer the newest new thing. Maybe most people who would speak up enthusiastically about them are just so used to them we take them for granted.

would you recommend it as a part of the edc rotation... the Mark II that is... Mark I is too huge...

I definitely recommend it.

I have several other knives that I tend to carry. There's always something new that needs getting used to or something specialized, depending on what I plan to do that day.

But the reason I keep the MODs by the door is, if I have no other knife I need to take, they get the nod, especially the Mark II, because as you say, the Mark I is huge. :)

Esav - I have the MOD CQD Mark 1 and it recently developed some bladeplay. Have you noticed this with yours? and any ideas on how to cure this?

I've had mine for a longer time than my Mark II and it's seen some rough use. There is absolutely no blade play, horizontal or vertical. Which way is yours moving, up & down or sideways?

I've had other knives with minimal blade play that tightening the pivot corrected. I can't see how the MOD would develop that sort of play, though, but you could try it.

Is there any play when you engage the secondary lock?

That's whats so strange. I don't use it that much even though its one of my edc's. I carry it for urban survival because of its carbide tip and seat belt cutter. I usually use my sebenza which is not so tactical in appearance. Then one day I was cleaning the MOD I noticed vertical and horizontal blade play, very very very slight. Before then it was rock solid. I tried the secondary lock per your question and the play remains. I will try tightening the pivot as you suggest. Have you ever taken yours apart to clean it? Might try that if tightening the pivot doesn't work. Thanks

I just checked both of mine again. The Mark II had a microscopic amount of side-to-side play. A light touch with the hex driver tightened it down just enough to cure it.

I have mine from 4 Jun 2004, I have it with me all the time - all casual use is on it. I have no bladeplay as well as anything to complain so far. Some black coloring wear off but little bit and I have worse on other knives.

I put 30 dergee polished edge on it and it hold it just perfect. I think that it has one of the best locking solution. And handle ergonomic just amaizing.

Problem with this knife - unususlly high price for production knives. 3D handle need more machinery for handle then flat models, but it worse it and it is not overpriced as some peoples think. It is cheaper flat MOD knife - AFCK, Mark II feells much better.

Thanks, Vassili.
