I ordered a fine scotchbrite belt for my 2x42 craftsman, but the guard on the drive wheel is too close to the wheel for the belt to fit. Any of you craftsman users cut all that guard off to use a fat belt? Don't want to compromise the structural integrity, since the guard is also the arm that holds the idler wheel.

I don't have the craftsman, but I sawed the top guard off on mine so I could use the 2" wheel. When I don't need the wheel the guard is duct taped on. Yeah for Duct Tape:D

I cut the top of my Craftsman 2 x 42 to use a leather belt
no problems thus far. I will email a pic if you want

Worked on it with the angle grinder a bit, then went old school with a file. Got it working well with the scotchbrite, and I like the finer finish the scotchbrite belt puts on top of a 400 grit belt finish.
