My Lunada (w/ a few minor mods) loadout. This is a small pack (gearslinger), but carries a lot more than one would think looking at it.

Full loaded from the rear

I made a bungi tie down setup on the bottom for a jacket or vest

bottombungicord.jpg

I used small pieces of gutted paracord for the loops- worked great

with a down vest

the rear zippered pocket is very narrow, but I was able to get a small repair kit and FAK in it

rearzipperedpocket.jpg

used a maxped glove pouch for the FAK (even found a little foliage red cross on ebay :)) the pouch has a few pockets and is nice and flat

the next pocket forward is a little deeper and has several elastic organizers

in the bottom two hanks of 12' papracord, fire kit in tin, USGS quad, 3x5 notebook, sharpie fine point, Silva ranger compass, Fresnal magnifying lens, UTM grid, signal mirror, Petzel e-light headlamp, Leatherman Juice, Frontier water purification straw

there is a little sleeve pocket behind the upper bungi cord setup, just the right size for a AMK 2 person heat sheet

flagpocket.jpg

the upper zippered pocket contains sunscreen, bugdope (repackaged), clear lens for my sunglasses (I'm wearing these anymore for woods "work"), lens cloth, microfiber towel, toilet paper, alcohol wipes

topzipperedpocket.jpg

the left cocoon holds two 8 hr candles, spork, two tent stakes (used for my stove), titanium esbit stove, two esbit cubes, two wetfire cubes, mini bic, two candles

leftcocoon.jpg

the right cocoon holds a light wool hat, light wool gloves and a buf

rightcocoon.jpg

on the right side I have a Fiskars folding saw and a 25' hank of paracord

lunadarightloaded.jpg

on the left side I have a short torso/sit/kneeling pad- I used annex clips and nylon straps to make a compression strap setup

moving to the main compartment, the rear sleeve I keep a pair of thin work gloves

mainforwardpkt.jpg

directly above it is a small zippered pouch- it contains a 1/2 liter platybottle, 10 Micropur water tabs, beverages (coffee, gatorade)

mainzipperedpocket.jpg

the main compartment holds a 28 oz widemouth Kanteen, nestled in a SnowPeak 450 mug- inside the mug is the windscreen/stove; a AMK thermolite bivy and windshirt- it's also where lunch resides

maincompartmenttop.jpg

the front sleeve holds a lid for SP mug, a bail handle for the KK and a sharpening kit

rearmainpkt.jpg

the front pocket is behind where the padding is, I have a heavy mil trash bag in it

frontpocket.jpg

more.............

the strap has a few pockets too- the upper sleeve I have medium size trash bag

upperstrappocket.jpg

lower on the strap there is a sleeve that my cell phone fits nicely, I have my Foretrex strapped nearby

the pack and contents (minus water/food) is under 6 lbs and carries very nicely- the gearslinger design gives you lots of freedom of movement- not a big pack by any stretch, but big enough for most of my day hiking/fishing/hunting needs

OK what's the deal with these one strapped packs? Honestly, I can't stand em. I thought the design of this thing was pretty sweet til I saw how it carries...

I carry a messenger bag regularly, sometimes a pretty heavy load. Same sort of across the chest single strap, but the Gearslingers look even more stable.

Awesome pack, great review!

I love my Maxped Sitka very much and it's a one strap also. I've worn it four hours at a time without any complaints. It's the most comfortable pack I have.

it does take a little adjusting (that's probably all packs), but once adjusted it carried great

one thing to keep in mind, these are pretty small packs, probably not the best design for heavy loads, but for lighter loads I think they handle great

I have the next size up--the Malaga--and it's one hell of a bag. You're right, they do take adjusting, but once you get them set they ride real nice.

I have that identical gearslinger. The only packing mod I'd also suggest is a easily removable clip on the smaller stabilizing strap.I do it so I can change up where the strap goes.If I want to shift the pack from my right shoulder to the left.
They're a great light pack.I love mine.

I love my Sitka but for heavier loads I use a double strap pack like my camelbag. For normal packing the single strap gearslingers are good and I think the mix the OP has is stunning, very well though out. Really uses all the little hooks of the modular system. Makes me want to get a Lunada

The think with Maxpedition they are a hit and miss affair, for example I've never warmed up to the Proteus Versipack, also their wallet series is IMO useless. Also the gear slinger approach does not work well for smaller packs if they keep mowing around, then you have to use the second strap to fixate it.

good idea :) I've got a couple of snaps that would do the trick, beats undoing/re-doing the tri glide

thanks gents, I'm always refining/improving my load out- many of the changes I've made in the last six months were based on member's ideas/input!

Very nice setup and selection of gear! Lots of places to secure essentials in that bag. Thanks for posting the pics:thumbup:

Nice setup.....Ive been thinking of adding a couple small pouches to my Lunada. They are a great little pack, and bombproof indeed.
