Pitdog read above, rat's don't but squirrels will get hit by the bar and fall down with a broken back. This means you won't collect dinner if foxes, cats, or yotes are in the area. That squirrel will be letting off it's high pitched scream.
With the screws they won't because the screws go into the hide.
When a mouse trips your trap and walks away with your bait and you have nothing that is a loosing proposition.

You may not want a mouse but it is either food for you or bait to move up the food chain.
Putting it in trees for what is a prevalent game animal in this part of the US, squirrels means mice will not trip it as much. However, I have seen it happen.
My thought with the 4 attachment points is that I could put it horizontally with cordage, and maybe a mouse could not climb across like a squirrel.
Trapping is a good strategy, and all different types of traps increase your odds.
