Whoa! You turned it into a knife! I have an unmodified Pilot's knife that I re profiled and it became a decent cutter. I saw one that had been turned into a scandi grind and I've thought about doing that to mine. The double guard has to go, it really does get int he way. You did a good job with that. Mac

I did the same thing with my 1095 kabar usmc knife and it cuts way better than it did. Im thinking of turning it into a full convex grind on my sander.

Looks good. I wanted to mod my son's Kabar by cutting the top half of the guard off, but he refused to let me.

When I did that modification to my Camillus AF pilots knife years ago I didn't have a belt grinder. I used a diamond hone and lots of elbow grease to take the bevels down to a scandi edge. I still have the knife and it still serves me very well. I removed the top guard as well and reduced the size of the bottom guard.

Uh. Hey Fonly.:eek: Could you uh....post some more pics of that modded Ka-bar......somewhere? Ive been considering doing something like that for quite sometime. Cool.

Dont mean to hijack the thread by any means!!!!!!!! Matter of fact Ill start my own one!:D Look for it......

That is uber cool, I had one those and traded it off, wish I still had it now. I bet that thing cuts like a laser. Chris

Super cool mod! I almost bought one of them a while back because they looked cool.

The Ontario version is pretty much all I carry now.

I also would round the top of the gaurd and would prolly polish the whole blade.

Your mod is very cool and looks wicked sharp, but I am sticking with mine bone stock.

Nice work.

thanks guys much appericated i just got done fine tooning the edge and now it is one crazy cutter here is a pic of it makeing fuzz sticks

It's a classic for sure. One of those was the second "real" knife I ever bought (first was a Buck 110, still have it).

I'm not crazy about the stock grind (too obtuse) or the HT (too soft, I've easily bent the tip right over on each one I've owned). But it's easy to mod, easy to sharpen, you can beat them pretty hard, and CHEAP. I think the standard sheath and medium stone that come with it are highly under-rated. An excellent budget choice for your main knife or just something you throw in a BOB or cache, especially if you're willing to make it cut.

BTW I leave the top part of the guard on, because the lashing-holes are just too damn cool :D
