nice job one that ka-bar looks great

Like the knives, but don't like the heavy nut cap on the butt. Does anyone know how the cap can be taken off and a lighter piece of brass be threaded and added?

I guess you could drill out the center, remove the cap, then thread a brass one on. Not sure why you would do that because brass is just as heavy but less durable as a "pounder". Unless you went thinner, but the knife is fairly balanced and would be very blade heavy at that point.

Thanks PrimitiveMan. I was just thinking about making the knive lighter. Guess I'll just go to work on the blade and hilt. The pics of the mods were tremendous.

Just grind off the hex profile of the butt. That ought to lighten it some.

Nice job. And I think I see that you took a bit off the lower guard, too--or at least rounded it.

You should check out what Virtuovice did to his Kabar on youtube. He's a Japanese hunter named Wako. He reprofiled his and then used what I use which is sharpening compounds on leather strops to buff it to a mirror polished super sharp edge. I mean we all know convex is for utility purposes and scandi is for precision cutting like field dressing game meat which is what he uses it for. He put a scandi grind on the Kabar.

Hey man, great mod. One thing I wanted to comment on is using a better quality foam under your sanding paper. I found that a mousepad is quite inconsistent for thickness. A better choice would be a square of some denser foam, like those blue camp foam mattresses. Not to say a mouse pad won't work. Just passing on something that was shared with me. Great mod again. I had a Kabar that I modded and gave to my brother. And I have a heavily modded scrapyard yard guard that has become a part of me. No knife is perfect, but a little sanding and hacking (and grinding) can turn an average knife into a real work of art.
