went hiking this past spring took my fixed griptilian and used it. Really didn't like the scales or the exposed tang around the whole handle also felt the guard was to pointy. i like the knife i wish benchmade would put out more fixed blades(fixed skirmish w/9inch blade, yeah i wish). so have been messing around with moding some of my production pieces. heres a the before and after of the griptilian along with a firesteel i put together for it. the sheath i cut the retaining strap off and wedged a small piece of nylon strap in so its held in by friction and pressure on the blade, tech-lok on the back and a maxpediton pouch on the front. much better set-up now. hey how about a mini-fixed griptilian.

Great work man, thanks for the pics. That re-worked kitchen blade looks great, I love the thin stuff in the woods.

Awesome work, I've all ways wanted to get a fixed grip, and I keep telling my self I should get one, but its hard convincing the girlfriend I need another one. If I had one piece of advice, never tell the ladie when your really impressed with a knife, she'll ask why you need another one!:D

Good stuff.

If I were to get a fixed Grip, I think it would have to be Doug Ritter's variant with the orange handles...that is one sweet-looking knife! I'm not real big on the sheath, probably would have to get something from River City or Spec-Ops. Check it out!

The 151 and Ritter fixed blade Grip are both great knives, except they bite the hand too much. I would like to see a Grip fixed blade about the size of the Ritter Grip folder, or 551. I brought the idea of a Grip neck knife with Critter, he said they'd have to see how much interest there was in the 151 and Ritter fixed. Great mods.

SHS,

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "they bite the hand too much", but I do want to make it clear that the dimensions of the handles of the fixed Rittergrip (Mk3) and the full size folding Rittergrip (Mk1) are very similar - though of VERY different materials.

Here is a recent pic I took that has the fixed Mk3, full size Mk1, and mini Mk1:

thanks for the comments guys, i hope to keep up the work so many prodjects in my shop. i believe that the ritter is a better looking knife and most likley a better knife, but it still looks like the sheath on both of them is lacking. brians, nice grind down on the thumb ramp i thought about doing that but i left it for some reason. either way the knife is so much morer comfortable now. so whens the mini-fixed griptilian coming out?:)

nice work indeed... i have always liked those knives..:) i'm a recovering Benchmade addict.....:o
