Can anyone tell me when those were made? It seems like the #122 is another of Buck's recycled numbers but I don't know which came first, the 122 Nemo or the 122 filet knife.

Me? :D

The closest I ever pinned down the 122 Fillet was sometime in the early 80's Buck made them and a 123 with wood handle for Bass Pro Shops.

Got any pics Dave? :D

Those are sweet!!!!! Gotta love a wood handled fillet! ;)

Thanks for the pics Dave! Shes a real beauty!

I'll have to dig mine out now, she has about 1,000,000 miles on her though!

I could never locate them either. I finally emailed Joe about it. I am thinking like '83 or so. The 123 had a lighter wood and Bass Pro etch on the blade. IF I remember correctly, the 122 was the Ultimate fillet. Production numbers were rather low for a factory knife also. So did you buy it? Good price? I see it was a "121" :D They are great fillet knives, I just wish I could use mine more! ;)

I found them in the 1985 catalog ; the model 125 = Streammate with 4.5" blade, model 123 = LakeMate with 6.5" blade and model 127 = OceanMate with 9" blade . Offered with yellow handles and black sheath as well . I suspect Post's guess of 1983 is correct . The Bass Pro models may have had slightly different numbers . A good looking knife . DM

My Grandmother just gave me a Buck Model 122 with the wooden handle. STill in the box and never used. It also has a "Cat #868" on the box. Also has orginal tissue paper and booklet in the box??? Should I use it to filet fish or keep it in the box? Is it worth anything?

If it were me, I'd keep it in the box and buy me a user filet knife, there are plenty of them out there including some made by Buck. As far as worth is concerned, I attended the Blade show in Pasadena Ca. a couple of months ago and bought one new in the box for $30. The seller's Buck knives had all been looked over and priced for her by Bruce Dollinger, a collector, board member of the Buck Collectors Club and Buck club rep at the show.

He had priced it at $40, but on the last day of the show, the seller sold it to me for $30. However, since your Grandmother gave it to you, it's priceless!

Although the filet knife and the Nemo shared the model # 122, the first time Buck used the 122 model # was in the 1951 catalog. The model 122 was a small knife with a 3 1/2 inch blade, used for small game and birds.

There is a nice one on ebay now

Careful my friend, although its great info and we all would love to find such knives its against the rules and you can get in trouble for whats known as "Deal Spotting" so Don't mention exactly where the knife is listed.
