moderating the “Mad Dog controversy”: who watches the watchmen?

On second thought this is a business, and here I am telling you how to run it. I have, yet again, gotten a little carried away. Plenty of magazines run ads and have great reviews. What am I saying about you, when I suggest you should do it in any way different?

My Apologies,

Pleconin

Here's a quote from the membership agreement at Mad Dog's new forum:

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law.

I guess Mad Dog won't even be able to post on his own site.

First I would like to say I would much rather know what the bias of the tester is, rather than the tester pretending he has none. So let it be known right off. Secondly, I learn a hell of alot more, about knives, whenpeople poke holes in the test and test methode. With this last controversy I even learned a little about X-rays. Look how much we learned because of the MDK compared to the Busse knife in this hole thing. I sure can deal with the little name calling and bickering when so much info can be learned. So if you don't like the threads don't read them. I sure will.

NO! Do not lock down these threads or move them off. I read BladeForums daily. I know I don't post that much, but I don't always have much to say. This Forum is a good asset to the knife industry, I have learned a lot.

So what if we have a few diffent opinions. I clicked over to the other forum, even though I am not a member, and I didn't like what I read. Members were rude to each other. On this forum we can differ and still be free to state our opinions, within the rules. I want to hear both sides. I want to read statements from members that disagree with the tests and own that same knife and can report their own findings.

We asked for these tests and several of us jumped to read the results. The controversy that was born from these tests fueled some interesting debate and information. I don't read all the threads and if someone doesn't like the topic, don't click. We do see more good than bad reported.

If you chopped a cord of wood and then preformed a triple bypass on your deer dog with the same knife, let us know. But don't be upset when someone asks for a photo of the dog in front of the fireplace.

I remember over 20 years ago when I took my $100 custom knife and chopped a couple of saplings down and hacked off all the limbs for poles. Then I could still shave on any part of the blade afterwards. I quit telling people that, because several called me a liar. I knew what I had seen as true.(I did have 3 witnesses.) I know a man that said that stainless steel was no good because he never had one that would hold an edge. I asked if he ever paid more than $5 for a knife. When he said, "no", I replied, "no wonder." I recomended that he read BladeForums.

When we start eliminating opinions even when the post abides by the rules, then we have killed the forum. Bring on the next flavor of the week! Keep up the good work!

MTF3 has said it all as gracefully, succinctly, and honestly as I could have said it myself. Now there's a guy with common sense!

They are displaying IPs!!! I know UBB can log them automatically but Mad Dog Forums log them and display them in each post. They are in the lower-righthand corner. Check it out.

Is that a serious security risk to the poster?

Hey Senator, you are the perfect poster boy for what Bladeforums is becoming.

I nominate you to be the impartial moderator of the Hate Mad Dog forum at www.Bladeforums.com.

I wanted to add something constructive to this thread, about my own experiences trying to evaluate knives in a way that will be useful to others, and my own thoughts on magazine testing, but when I read your garbage, I just lost interest.

Keep up the good work, and I look forward to ignoring the next infantile shot you take at me too.

Hey Steve - If defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, and profane don't accurately describe how Mad Dog (or his little doggie followers) treats those who dare disagree - or even question - anything he believes, then I'll eat my hat. If you want to be associated with the likes of that, then by all means be my guest. If that's a potshot, then so be it.

BTW - I make no claims of being impartial. *You* are the one who should be impartial, being a moderator and all. After seeing the crap you've written over the last few days in the various Mad Dog threads, any claim of impartiality you had have gone right out the window.
