I am another one here that it doesn't bother to see an old thread brought up and even added to.

I would also add that the internet is very young and as such a major revolution or evolution if you will is taking place in how we communicate thus changing the style of conversation. It is possible that we can have ongoing discussions (threads) that may go on for decades perhaps centuries should the internet continue in its present course. We have to be open to how we communicate with one another. Shutting down an old thread is destructive to open free speech.

from the files

Whispering warm, soft thoughts,
The dying summer night gives way to chilly dawn,
A child's toy left lying in the yard,
Damp with the dew that’s sprinkled on the lawn.

And life goes on though people die
And leaves fall thick along the walk.
Who cares who's gone as long as I
Remain to talk and talk and talk?

Beneath the pristine blanket of the snow,
The purity of death is all that we can know
Until we rise renewed from archived files,
As lurkers read our words with patronizing smiles.

I am one of those who found BF through a Google search. I even posted regularly in the BCCI (sticky) thread for a month before I realized very few ever navigate there and that there were other threads of interest in BF. Because of that Google search I am now a life member of BCCI, a paying member of BF, and very active in the Buck forum. I've also met some really great people because of that search.

As others have said, I see nothing wrong with someone new resurrecting an old thread, or two, as they go through the learning curve of navigating the forum. It rises, and then dies another peaceful death, and most times we've gained if not another club member, at least another forum member in the process.

Now, with all that said, the way 300 corrects missteps (I was on the receiving end once) is in no way offensive, but rather helpful. I guess it is all in the way it is presented.

Folks,

I hear more people in favor of a light hand in these situations. So be it. I agree with lots of facts presented. I may still send those with only a couple of posts a Howdy and suggest I am available if they have any Blade Forum operations questions.

I am not going to close the thread in case someone wants to get a chance to comment. But, the people have spoken and I hear. Now, lets see how can we do the same with Congress...ha

I don't understand the bias against old threads. Alternatively, I frequently see someone ask a question and then get admonished for not doing a search on existing (sometimes old -- who cares?) threads.

It is a nuissance tp see an old thread brought up with some b.s. post. But if ots informative and relevant i like it all in one place rather than numerous post.

mbjannusch , just read his Patrick Henry quote and you can follow this member. I see so many members respond to every thread on here, then I see someone like Mbjannusch and i stop and read. I guess same with certain members, they post so much, regardless I skip it. But to the point of 300bucks, as much time and effort as you put into this site, you at least carry a bigger blade. Most all knife searches in Bing or Google will ref. to an old BF thread. I would hate anyone to have to depend on other forums, laced with spew and hate. now pls someone tell me how to know when the sales part of the thread is over, without digging. not because i paid the gold membership, but so many posters never "kick a dime" charge 2 dimes to open old threads. just like everything , this place is costing someone. AS for Mbjannusch, if you leave, " I'll take " your P Henry quote.'

I don't think it's an issue that should involve a Moderator, I've been around here for years and have seen threads that pop back up after several years and get a few responses, but it doesn't bother me. I usually realize its an old thread and either re-engage or pass it up. New potential members may find something interesting, such as a prefactory Buck knife and want to comment but don't have the information, knowledge, or desire to start another full thread. I personally don't care for threads that just have one specific comment and don't spark conversation. If we limit what people say and do the "Rules" get to be a drag and push people away. Just My 2 Cents...

If someone is new to forums making a new post is a scary thing. I remember when I found this great place; I was new to forums (still learning). I was researching pocket knives and found old posts from BUCK and Traditional forums and blown away that such a place existed. I joined, try to understand the rules and have been welcomed and became a BCCI Life member because of you all. I think it does help when a Moderator guides the way so we newbies can learn the way of the forum. Thanks all and wishing you all a great New Years.

I notice this is one of those "danged if you do, danged if you don't" situations. If a member resurrects an old thread it's bad; if they post a question that has been asked before they get a lot of "use the search function" replies. I can see where it can be annoying for an old post to be resurrected if the person isn't adding anything of value to the discussion; however if they have something meaningful to say then by all means bring the old threads back.

Folks, I have heard to go light, to be helpful to new people but let the posts land where they may. I started this thread and feel we can go back to discussing Buck knives. Think its time for this thread to ride off into the sunset. 300
