Modern Light-weight Survival Tools

can you post a pic of the RSK in an altoids tin?

That's a pretty cool little spork-tool! I like it:thumbup:

ROCK6

Thanks Rock. So far I like it too and you'll see why in a few days when I actually do a review. The band width for this photobucket album is nearly exceeded and it has another week and a few days before reset. Sooo...I'm not putting any more pictures here for a bit.

*snip* ...this is a good example of "feature creep". sporks are good, wrenches are good, bottle openers... meh. combing them all into one stubby tool that can't hold much liquid? BAD idea.

i'll take a LMF spork, which is cheaper and will fit in your tube. separating the spoon and fork ends also makes it a much better spoon. still not a great fork.

the RSK looks cool for a minimalist knife, but the shape of the handle doesn't look like it would lend itself to lashing it onto anything like you can do with many of the other tin knives.

Perspective is always personal and subjective, and useful is usually defined by the end user.

True...for some this could maybe be seen as a good example of feature creep, just as for some your statement may be seen as a good example of a closed mind.

Just in the last couple of hours this evening it has earned its place in my kit and I'll post pics later to show why.

I like the LMF spork to a degree but its composition makes it of limited value to me and it too would take up more room in the capsule than I am willing to sacrifice. Plus neither plastic nor stainless needs to be protected from the elements, I'll just attach the eat n tool to the outside somehow.

The RSK is the perfect size for what I needed here as it and it's sheath take up little room in the capsule. I have other small knives I like better for other applications but they are also bulkier and take up more room. With any luck I will have a larger knife around as I do at the moment.

Actually the RSK comes in it's own "Altoids" tin, I'll post pics of that later as well.

Thanks, you beat me to it.

ohhh, i try to have a fairly open mind when it comes to new things that make sense. but it's not so open that things are falling out.

i'm looking forward to your review where you eat some kind of food out of a pouch, either a MRE or Mountain House dehydrated meal, and use the wrench on some of your gear you take into the field, or even to tighten the battery terminals on a vehicle or some other mundane task.

Good comeback, exactly what I was expecting

Actually that's not quite what I had in mind, but I could add those in I suppose :)

apparently you left me a "visitor message" or something, but the BF visitor message system blows goats and i can't access it to read it. even tho it thinks that somehow i did read it and now it won't show it to me.

just wanted to say that while i may have a different opinion about this CRKT spork that you there's not any blood feud or other ill will that's going to result from that. it's just a different opinion about a piece of gear. *shrugs*

just didn't want anyone thinking there's some hot tempered argument going on here.

if there was something in that message that i can't read that's important, please email me.
