Modern Sea Story. As an old tin can sailor I had to post this one.

Sven,

I am also a newcomer to these forums, but I have to tell you that this Himalayan Imports forum (cantina) is one of the most enjoyable by far! The people here are incredibly helpful, and a real joy to talk/write to.

Don't be upset with Yvsa's size. He's just a little guy by our standards. Now that I've said that, he'll probably point my toes and push me into the ground. ;) :D

Seriously, welcome, I for one would love to hear your view on what is going on these days. I spent quite a few years in Germany, both as a teenager, and as an adult, and have MANY fond memories!

Please send beer! Dopplebock!!

Doppelbock? I do not believe it, swede79, I´m impressed you voted for one of the best beer in the world. I would really like to send you some Doppelbock but I´m afraid the US declare it liquore and will cause a lot of trouble :D
Where did you stay in Germany?

I think I saw Yvsa in the background on one of the pics from the convention and fully understand the grip now, judging from what I could see that knife would really look small in his hand...so do not get too close to Yvsa I guess pointing your toes would not really be necessary, just kidding, Yvsa.

I´ve got to run to test the knifes now, more later in a different post.

Sven,

I'll send you an email so we don't clutter the thread too much. Nothing I enjoy more than discussing beer - except maybe knives. :D I have a deep respect for any country that has water purity laws for making beer for hundreds of years!

Yvsa's not responding to this thread. I hope he's not aggravated....Now I'm worried, I've been told that my head resembles a watermelon...:p :D    Augh!!!

Yvsa will catch up, and your head won't be in danger. Also, taking hair was not a Cherokee custom (it originated with Europeans). Ears, however....well...nothing better to decorate a lodgepole than a nice string of ears

Welcome Guys,
Don't worry about THAT NDN(OK GUY SUFFERING FROM HIS VERBAL COMBAT WITH YOURS TRULY):)!Don't pay any attention to the term HIKV,just remember ,"IT DOESN'T EXIST"!:barf: Have fun you all!
jim

Yvsa will be around. He has a little health problem that keeps him off the forum once in awhile -- just like the rest of us old timers.

A couple of days ago Gelbu inquired about my health. I replied saying I was just like a Kathamndu taxi --

For those of you with misconceptions about Kathmandu taxis I'll supply this info. Many are ancient Toyotas, maybe 400,000 miles of city driving on bad roads. They need everything -- paint, upholstery, headliner -- interior is shot after a couple of hundred thousand passengers. Exterior same. Engine is alarmingly loud and the driver may have to stop to add oil, water, fluids or make a roadside repair. Radiator and hoses leak. Tires show threads no tread. Sometimes the starter works. Tranny is also alarmingly noisy and sometimes a gear won't work. The clutch slips. You name it and it needs it. But, the damned things just keep on going!

Yvsa hope your ok
swede79 looking forward to your mail you are 110% right but why not discuss knifes with a beer in your hand...
I have an Andecks Doppelbock in my hand and sit really relaxed smiling at my khukuris, it is 10pm here and I´m relaxing from a day of testing my babes :D

Yup, ears are good.;)

But I'm really easy going so y'all don't have anything to worry about.
And as far as not having to point anyones toe's I have lost a great deal of the strength I once had although Howard Wallace still thinks I'm pretty strong.:)
I can still do a little but would have to do it real f - a - s - t And I would have to catch you first and almost everything is faster than I am anymore.:p
Besides all anyone here would have to do is ask if I've seen their latest khukuri or other knife aquisition and I would forget about everything else. :D

Good to hear your ok, Yvsa.

Sven not to worry.

Men sometimes lose their humanity when they keep company with death for many years as well as see other horrific things war always brings.
Uncle Floyd was gone a terribly long time and he was glad that he and the soldiers he was with were shipped home by boat so that they could have some time to regain what they had lost.

Yvsa, there are terrible things happening all over the world and in any culture and it never did any good to try and only focus on the sunny side and not see the dark one. Thanks

I have always thought it was a great mistake of the military NOT to have basic training for men returning home from combat. The military goes to great lengths to take a civilian boy and turn him into a killing machine but when they are done with him they just ship him home -- thanks and goodbye.

Think about it. I've known men who were in the field killing all the enemy they could find and two days later they were sitting down to Sunday dinner at their parent's home. There is something very wrong with that picture from where I sit.

In the last dozen years or so I've spent more time at VA hospitals than I care to remember and during my time there I was a guinea pig for a psychological program designed to help veterans suffering from PTSD. I did well enough in the program that I was asked to participate in group therapy with guys suffering from absolutely crippling PTSD. I couldn't do it. I couldn't stand to see the suffering. It was too much for me. But, the experience taught me that a debriefing or deprogramming program for vets, especially those in prolonged combat situations, was greatly needed.

The bright side of the story is I was able to work one on one with a couple of vets who were truly disabled due to PTSD and was able to help them get their lives back.

No applause please. I did this for myself. I get a huge number of plus karma points for my action.
